LOL!! The key is to take 2 Immodium Ad's prior to going out, this way you don't have to worry about the runs!!!;) Been doin it for years like that. Almost 100% effective! |

I disagree completely. On the other hand though, I also disagree that your post was useless, I appreciate it, and I feel you on the second-to-last sentence. The ranking system is based on popularity, and I think some people take this the wrong way. Tijs definitely blew a mix last June @ Space (totally forgot which track he was trying to mix... doesn't matter), and the music actually stopped for 1.5 seconds, and I suppose he hit play on a CDJ that was ready, and the music kept going:eek: ... Seriously though, Oh Well! Corsten last May (CO-RAY-ZEE!!!!) was killing it, and Sweet Sorrow (obviously on CD) cut out 1 minute into the song. Sander had that happen twice two weeks ago:sadgreen: . True, that's a hardware problem, different than a mixing problem;) . Still, my point I was making is you have to recognize what Tiësto brings, and I mean to the whole party. The way I see it, there's a handful of DJ's that truly get it and stand apart from the rest. This one is hard to explain, but it's almost like they'll be juicing it like crazy, and suddenly they're right next to you, asking you how you liked that track, or that mix. It's an intimacy they feel with the crowd, and they catch everyone on the same wavelength. Verwest does it, Kleinenberg definitely does it, Picotto has the mind control thing on lock-down, Edgar does it... there's a few more, but I don't want to upset anyone by excluding any names. To me, the chosen ones are all #1, they understand muzik and communicate it to their fans on a totally different level. Tijs is number one because of a vote, but he is the best because he is Tiësto. daVe:cool:   |
I appreciate your opinion and the way that you express it 100%. Tiesto was also my favorite dj, until I became a dj. I'm not saying that every dj hates Tiesto, but I am not a fan of his mixing style. It irritates me enough to overpower the quality of the tracks and I really haven't enjoyed his track selection that much in the last 2-3 years. He's gone very techy and repetitive, IMO. That's why I don't love him anymore as a dj. I still listen to some of his old stuff and appreciate everything he has done for EDM, but he doesn't thrill me. Ferry doesn't really thrill me much as a dj either, but that's an issue of track selection, not technical ability. I respect your opinion and hope you can respect mine in the same way. I enjoy discussing it intelligently and with reasoning, as we have done, even though the outcome will always be the same. :) |

NiteMer, firstoff, myself, drdave, and the few others that consistently defend tiesto, arent living in some dream world oblivious to the fact that tiesto does have his fair share of technical mishaps. HE DOES...but from the ones ive heard and heard strories of i would say like 50% of the time he was having trouble with the equipment, groupies in the dj booth, or probably too much grey goose. personally ive been to 23 tiesto gigs in my liftime, and i can honestly say ive never once witnessed a COMPLETE trainwreck, but yes i have seen his beatmatching off and some general poor mixing, but nothing i would call a trainwreck, fender benders if you will. im not a dj so i probably dont hear some of the things that you and others who have that hobby do, but i got a pair of learned astute ears imho and know when something is awry. and what im getting at is that overall his mixing has always been pretty clean, not mind blowing, but clean. keep in mind he doesnt use a laptop and some of the other technology out there that could make him better, he still is somewhat "old school". and i will concede, there are probably some nights where he just doesnt give a ...oakenfolds mixing is by far the worst of any big name dj out there, i dont even think he cares about mixing at this point, or anything else for that matter, and he doesnt try to cover it up, its just bad.. so i hate to hear the comparisons to tiesto, but oh well. i respect your opinion tho, but the comments are just played out, peace out:D ;) |
I just want to clarify that I just enjoy debating this stuff. I can tell that you know what you're talking about from previous discussions, but djing changes things a lot. I don't even think I'd mind him coming off here and there, if he had a different mixing style. I feel some of his mixes are really abrupt and I realize other people will like that. It all comes down to opinion, and you're obviously not the only one who likes Tiesto. As far as Oakie/Tijs comparisons. I truly believe that they are similar in a lot of ways, but agree that Oakie really doesn't give a anymore. Tiesto seems a little indifferent at this point in his career, Oakie REALLY doesn't give a . But the mixing on Oakie's Essential Mixes is easily as good as the mixing on most Tiesto live sets. Live at Energy 2000, for example, used to be my favorite live set, and still has great tracks, but the first mix, for one, is God awful. I just want you to know I'm not one of those haters that doesn't like Tiesto because he's #1, but I like to draw peoples reasoning out when I'm bored at work. :toocool: :p |

your opinion is always cool and welcome here NiteMer..your responses are always very eloquently and intelligently stated which is a nice change of pace from all the wanker comments that seem to pervade most of FLTA.. and you do make some valid points i will admit, although its never been his strong point, it wouldnt hurt him to sharpen up on some of his technical skills, cause i think he is very capable...i will have to re listen to energy 00', i always thought that was a rip/recording glitch!!, if so from what i rememeber that was pretty ugly!! peace:D |
