recently purchased a 20gig ipod Gen 4.
i fully charged it for 12hrs and then proceeded to update
the firmware etc etc etc.
first time i fully ran down the battery, which only took
about 4hours i'd say, then recharged it to the max again
and then after updating the music on the ipod again, the
batteries were flat within about 4hours
now is this just a dodgy battery, or does the transferral
of more and deletion of music to your ipod chew up a load
of battery power??? bare in mind that whilst its plugged into
your usb, it appears to be charging
im kinda confused.
i thought i was supposed to get about 12hours battery life.
would it matter what encoding the mp3s are?
any ideas? |

transferring files etc. does suck up a fair bit of juice. Why dont u test it without transferring any files?
4 hours seems like a little bit too weak |

I'm afraid its not abnormal at all.
Depending on the quality of mp3s, how much I switch songs etc. I've had my 4g 20 gig ipod last only 4 hours until being completly drained directly after a full charge without transferring files or anything (which does suck juice)
Oh, and macintosh will be no help either. They will replace your battery if it runs out in under six hours BUT this is while using 128 kb mp3s, not pressing buttons (just letting it play through library) and having volume at the lowest it can be without having completly muted sound.
Even if your ipod does run out like this, my friend couldnt manage to get apple to replace it no matter how many times he tried (twice actually...) |

| the new ipods and old ipods shouldnt even be that bad. Apple should replace it as it is brand new andonly lasting that long. It is obvious afault in the product and not by your use. Call 1800 aplcare and talk to them. |

it seems a bit rough if they base there figures on having the volume at 0..
hehehe
but yeh, all mine are VBR or 192kpbs mp3s
so ill run some tests and see how it goes
the little hoe is charging as we speak
i mean im happy with my purcahse either way,
but stil.. |

| I have had no trouble. I just got finished killing my pod yesterday. Itg did about four or five hours on 1/2 to 1/3 of the battery yesterday. and I played it about all day the day before. My battery seems to be in perfect working order. |

I have the U2 Ed. and the battery lasts quite a while. It all depends how much you use the buttons and how many times you turn it on and off. Last time I depleted the battery, I must have used it about 7-8hours in total, that is turning it on and off a few times...
Also, most of my mp3s are 192kbps |
