AS far as ur breaks track goes...it gives me the same wtf feeling from this like LKD productions...maybe u 2 should collab...no offence, but of course i dont listen to breask...so what do i know
If u done this in FL5...have u heard of refx/linplug/NI? if so i would suggest checking those developers out...along with catching a crystal n superwave p8 download.
To rap it up...keep at it...and figure urself out more musically...cuz this stuff hurts my ears

Regarding layers and the "busyness" of tracks:
I come from a long-spent instrumental background, so things like counterpoint and polyphony are second nature to me, and my taste in electronic music has always been layered tracks. Having said that, there's nothing at all wrong with the "keep it simple" advice - it's just a matter of taste. There may be an objective point too as well, since perhaps some people find complex music difficult to dance to.
Most likely the reason Wind Dance sounds the best to many people is that I used FLS 5 to create it (as opposed to FLS 4 for the other tracks). Sytrus is a rock-solid plugin IMO, and Automation Clips are brilliant - with the use of those two, it was just a LOT easier to create the track (the whole thing took less than a week). It's not really any less layered than the other tracks, but I think it's definitely cleaner and most people seem to agree, which makes me happy because it means I'm making progress. :D
There's no need to argue or flame. All comments and criticisms are valid, even if I don't agree with them personally. However, if you folks don't mind, please don't bother with ones like this:

That's really not what I call "constructive" criticism. Just sounds to me like you're a producer and listening competitively. Is there something in particular you think could be improved, or is your only suggestion to download warez versions of plugins? |

having checked my reply...i have failed to see were i mention warez plugins?
it was you who asked for feedback...why dont you put this in the producer ring for constructive criticism?

Mindpluck is interesting... I think a record label would complain about the percussion though. It's really got that old-school kinda feeling... you need to get/make some more modern-ish samples. It just doesn't seem to come out and grab you enough. I do like the construction of the melody and the polyphony.
Yes, counterpoint is an essential element of music. Simple trance is boring. You got any recommendations of good melodic trance with heavy polyphony? The best I've got is probably Tastexperience - Highlander or PPK - Resurrection (I actually think that Resurrection is a rather well-composed track, and Highlander is just bloody amazing.) |

Agreed. It's not cool to say things like that about things people have worked on. If you don't like it, give reasons you think it could be better.
And as I said, I liked Wind Dance. There's a cool drum pattern going on. It's a very nice mood setting track. |

Anything from before 1999. ;)

I'm trying to employ the KISS rule for the next few tracks, we'll see how things turn out...
P.S. sorry, I don't mean to be negative or arrogant, but those plugins are lousy. They're better than some of the Fruity generators I used in Mindpluck and Spicicle, but I've actually got decent plugins now, which were what I used in Wind Dance. |

diginut.. i've been a long time fl producer so just thought i'd drop by and give you some of my advice...
but here is my advice...
I am only going to give advice to one track (don't have so much time)...
you have a unique style... and it's very refreshing to hear something that isn't of the ASOT imitating VST-trance variety. The percussion gives it a very electro-tribal feel. I don't think there is anything that needs changing.. but you might want to put some harder compression on the drums.. to make them punchy... the kick does need a bit of work though... it's weak... try putting some distortion (not too much so that it sounds like gabber) but to give it a harder edge and then apply some compression to it...
otherwise, the atmosphere in this track is good.. it is lacking a bit of a melodic direction but that's ok and i guess something you can consider working on more in the future...
the synths are cool... and the drums are really cool to listen to... some parts felt like i was playing like SNES game: donkey kong country or something hehe...
just wondering what synths you use as well...
i personally use 4 main synths... albino 2, absynth 2, spectrasonic atmosphere, and z3ta+... all of these i recommend you to check out if you have the resources |
