For a beginner DJ, are Stanton Str8 80x Direct Drive turntables good? I just found them at Guitar Center for $149.99 and I wanted to know what you guys think.

Also, what would be a good mixer? I found the Pioneer DJM707 Scratch Mixer for $299.99 and was wondering if that is a good deal as well.

the STR8 series are more suited for a scratch DJ because of the straight tone-arm. stanton makes an identical TT without the straight tone-arm. if you can get that one for the same price, go for it. if not, you can still get the str8.

also, the mixer is a scratch mixer? do you scratch?

look at the vestax 275 which can be had everywhere now for a great price...$299.

The stanton str8-80s are good decks... but if you are after an S shaped tone arm they only come on the 100 and 150 series stantons... but all in all i think the 80s are the best beginner decks around and got all you need and do the job well.

as for the mixer the 707 is not bad but is more built for a hip hop environment (unless thats ur thing)... like he said i reccomend taking a look at the vestax mixers for beginners... but stay away from the stanton stuff.

All in all the prices are good and in the end it all does the same stuff so long as you remember to have fun.
