Hi

Dont think this is another in son of a bitch how do i remove the ing assjack vocal from a tune..

Right i have an accapella

these were handed out freely for a comp so there not warez :D

I also have the Oceanlab - Sattelite (A&B Remix) tune with the vocals in

I head someone say if i aline the acapella with the tune perfectly and then phase reverse the accapella or something it should leave you with an intrumental?

Anyone clarify

Thanks very much if so

in theory yes. in practice probably not. generate a 60 hz sine wave (try it in soundforge. tools/synthesis/FM/) then copy it so there are 2 of them playing simultaneously. reverse the polarity of 1 of them. you should hear nothing because both sounds are in anti phase. this is sometimes called destructive phasing.

when you want to remove the vocals from a track you use this principle although there are a number of problems.

the sound *must* be exactly 180 degrees out of phase to eliminate vocals. this means

1) you have to align the vocals perfectly or it wont work.

2) if there are phase modulation effects (phasers, chorus, flangers) or effects which alter phase (delay and reverb) then it probably wont work either.

why is this you say? if both vocals have the same effects on them regardless of phase, reversing the polarity of 1 will put them in anti phase? thats true but the full song with vocals? well the phase modulation effects on the vocals nearly always cause some destructive phasing in the rest of the track (parts of which will also have phase modulation effects or have a stereo field position and which will share similar frequencies) so even if you line up your accapella perfectly, you will never be able to completely remove all of it. sometimes if you are unlucky and the vocals are drenched in reverb it'll sound really glitchy. since 90% of all vocals in dance music have reverb and delay on them it makes it difficult to use phase cancellation to completely get rid of the vocals.

Basically its too hard, in theory it works, in practice it doesn't.

On the flip side, i know there were some American scientists researching the perfection of this a couple of years ago for use with headphones.

They managed to get it so that the headphones picked up outside noise (a signal) and then played an exact opposite signal/frequency at the same time through the headphones, thus cancelling ALL outside noise.

I never got to try them (living in Australian and all), but from all accounts it was amazing!!! :eyes:

yeah ive heard stories of using it in bwm 7 series' too, to cut out all the road and engine noise and leave the interior completely silent

Bose does this too, the cars have some sort of mic on the outside that pics up all the noise, and the stereo on the inside tries to match the sound, so it eliminates the outside and engine noise. They're not they only ones, my dad has this on his Mini, he says it works quite well.
Oh, and the Bose headphones, are those the regular noise cancelling ones? If yes, those are cool, my dad has a pair, but he still prefers my HDJ-1000s tone wise though :tongue2

i've tried this trick with acapella's before and its a ing bitch to line it up hehehe. i did a pretty good job at it, but ultimately it wasn't good enough for what i wanted...i still got a lot of little noises and ...
