So Sander spun at Atlanta last Saturday. But before I get to that, Ian James was the opening DJ. We got there around 11. The main stage was empty and the floor was still sparse. The DJ booth was once again on the stairs with what appeared to be giant white sheets.

I got a few drinks and had a love hate relationship with Ian's set. His track selection was terrific but his mixing was spotty. In the hour set I witnessed, he must have made at least six noticeable mistakes. I went to visit the DJ booth with LeeAnn and saw the tools of the trade: 1Pioneer DVJX1, 2 Pioneer CDJ-1000MK2, 1 Allen & Heath Xone 92 mixer with rotary faders installed :-o!, and two Technics 1200 M3D. I stayed to watch Ian James volume fade the mixes --- not very impressive.

When Sander came on, the stage and the floor was packed. Let the madness begin. Fong started doing his kung fu dance with Melba's friend. I think her name was Gina but she was half asian and half white and one hell of a dancer. Her style was really bouncy and energetic. She reminded me of Shannon (Aya Brea) in NYC. No tracks I really recognized but then again I was really destroyed at the beginning of Sander's set. When he came on, the visuals started reading "Sander Kleinenberg." His visuals for the entire night was much better than the last time I saw him with visuals at WMC 2004. Very nice. :D

Next thing we heard Dallas Austin (big pop, hip hop and r&b producer) and Big Boy, 1/2 of Outkask, and their posse was outside at Eden chilling by one of the bars, so we took a break and went outside. We tried to get a picture but Dallas said nicely "not right now." So then this girl, after spotting the stars, proceeded to hip grind some guy on the concrete floor. Next thing I know, she falls backwards into the nasty pool water and completely soaks herself. Color her embarassed. See LeeAnn's pics for her. :haha:

After which we went back to Sander and danced our asses off. Sander dropped quite a few remixes of rock songs, which the Eleven50 crowd was thrilled about. He was on spot with track selection and mixing. His flow slowly progressed until he ended with the best track of the evening: The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Thin White Duke Mix) OMG what a perfect track to end the set with. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, lost it when that track came on. The Born Slippy-like lyrics, the melody and uplifting breakdowns really captured the entire evening. Those 3 hours went by too fast. :(

Greets to all the TAs that went: Samira, Bobby, Jordan, Eric, Matt, Dan, Dan's friend, Penny, Melba, Melba's friend, Hagen, Fong, Emil, Jack, Bobby, Kimmy, Lee, Meredith.

Highlights of the evening:

  • Spotting Big Boy and Dallas Austin
  • Watching Melba's friend dance.
  • Ending the set with The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Thin White Duke Mix)
  • Watching the visuals

Sorry for the late post, but Sander was totally awesome. A never knew a three hour set could go by so fast!!! It was 3am and i still wanted more SANDER!!!! The only lame part was Sander not coming down off the stage and the gay bouncers making me leave before he came down! But that was after he finished pwning me! Sigh...i miss the Mark :)

And Scott, my friends name is Nick (Mangopork).

My favorite tracks from the night:
1) Ace of Base - Cruel Summer (Mannel 4am Remix)
2) Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (remix unknown, i just know the song all too well!)

Have fun at WMC all,
Dan
