Just picked up my TIC2004 DVD. I had to drive 2hrs to Toronto to get it since they weren't shipping to London for a while.
My first impressions;
The inlay and covering seem to be lacking. They don't seem to have the professionalism that last years did.
It is only 1 DVD. I know that this was done as a Black Hole decision, but I'm curious as to why. There was no problem last year releasing a double disk album, why short the North American this year?
Upon starting up the DVD I find that the quality is increased, but only in few shots as there are so many alternating camera angles between HD and handheld. The opening is marvelous though, I love the cuts back and forth between Tiesto walking backstage to the intro music. More of a 'pump up' feeling. That was very well done.
Things seem to be warming up and going well when all of a sudden, I realize a mistake, quite a large one IMO. Between Track 12 (Electrovoya - Effervensce) and Track 13 (Tiesto featuring Matt Hales from Aqualung - UR) there is an entire track missing. Completely missed "Tiesto - Athena" in a chapter break as well as on the inlay. I guess that is what happens when you rush the production of a DVD.
All in all this was a wonder to watch as it brought back a tonne of memories from watching it Live over the internet back in October, but I was dissapointed in many ways on both a production level, personal level, and overall feel of the DVD.
I don't get a 'Tiesto' feel like I did last year. I get a concert DVD with too many camera angles. Hopefully next year in the production of the show, there will be more care taken into the final production and here's one north american saying he hopes he doesn't get ripped off when he's willing to pay for the double disk.
