| What's the most recent or best quality model of the Technics turntables? Is it still the MK2s or is there anything better? I haven't checked in awhile. |

there are more recent models.
Mk5 and Mk5G limited edition.
Not much difference in performance, larger pitch range, clickless pitch control, and some fancy new lighting. |

| Which model do you think is "essential" for a starting DJ. Like which model has everything a DJ needs minus the extra, maybe unnecessary stuff. |

for a starting dj, I dont feel a technics turntable is essential. There are some alternatives out there, have a look at vestax and the stanton turntables if you have the cash.
Although i will say the Mk2 would suffice even the most proffesional dj, and you would be crazy to spend extra on the fancier models unless you were really flush. |

| Yea theres no real need to go out and get the most expensive techs around... there all basically the same inside in the end, I reccomend doing your research on the net of all the major brands and then going around to the local dj stores and having a play on there floor models... There are decks out there with alot more features than even the newest tech's |

I wish I could test their floor models, but there are only a couple places near me that sell DJ equipment, and none of them allow the person to actually test the turntables out :(
As for the model, if I were to get MK2s do you think that it would last me from my beginning as a DJ up to actually getting gigs or will I need a better model when going outside the bedroom?
Edit: If I have a choice between the SL-1600, SL-1210 and SL-1200 models, which is better? |

| if you get 1200mk2s they will last you as long as you own them. Also, if you mostly mix, they should be fine. But for scratching there are better choices imo. Then again, if your planing on competing in the future at lets say a dmc sationed battle, you will be using mk2s. MK2s are good, but for around the same cost you can get the MK5 and it's a better value due to the clickless pitch, and the LED stylus lamp... |

I see mainly MK2s at clubs and events because of the sheer number of units that have been manufactured. The MK5 isn't much better than the MK2s if at all, the difference is the power switch and no click at 0. |

| yeah and the pitch reset button, which you won't really use while spinning. The are pretty much the same... I guess I find that when I spin on MK5's they are generally nicer because they are newer and the pitch control still feels nice, whereas some MK2's that people still have just have so many hours of use and prolly need a new pitch control. Same though :p |

| There's the M3Ds, which arent too much more than the MK2s and they have the smooth pitch control without the click. Also, I thought there was an issue with the MK2s having 2 zero points right around the middle of the pitch, which was resolved with the later models. |
