The album is great! I decided to buy it cuz I want to ask Paul :) to sign it this Saturday (partying in the <> woohooooooo)!
I am halfway the second cd and I love allllllll the tunes :) It's the first cd I've bought in months so I'm really proud of it hehehe :p
Anywayz, PvD writes that its his first mix cd all times, and that he found it hard to make without an audience present to give him feedback etc....well, he did very well! So if you have any cash left...go buy it...or else..d/l it, but I'm not gonna rip it for u guys cuz I think we should all support PvD hehe :p NEHNEHNEH :)

Well, I bought it and already listened to the first CD. My first impression is so-so... I hope the 2nd CD will make life more interesting. Don't get me wrong, there are some good moments on that first one, but it's a little too chillout/prog/breaks for my taste. I prefer straight no-nonsense trance with synths and a good beat.
By the way, I'm not a big fan of Paul van Dyk, and the music that he plays is not trance (he even said this himself in many interviews). It's too broad to fit into any specific genre, I just call it 'electronica'.
I can't help but wonder why he remixed that U2 track; the track that I didn't like AT ALL was Timo Maas - Killin' me. I don't understand why all these DJ's include this one, and Orinoko - Island, in their sets, I mean these two just suck IMO... On the other hand I enjoyed tracks 1,4, and the beginning of 5.
What I want to say in conclusion regarding CD 1 is EXACTLY what PvD said himself: I don't like to play music that makes people just stand there and then come up to you and say, 'Hmmm... that was interesting' But in my opinion, on that first CD, that's how it turned out... like his own track "Autumn." I think it fits that description perfectly. You'd listen to it, and then come up to him and say, "Hmm, that was interesting." Would you dance to it? I wouldn't... |
