Plot Summary for
We Were Soldiers (2002)
In a place soon to be known as The Valley of Death, in a small clearing called landing zone X-Ray, Lt. Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) and 400 young fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons, all troopers from an elite American combat division, were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. The ensuing battle was one of the most savage in U.S. history. We Were Soldiers Once...And Young is a tribute to the nobility of those men under fire, their common acts of uncommon valor, and their loyalty to and love for one another.

It`s a fkn disgrace that Mel Gibson did that movie considering his father moved him and his brother from Hawaii to Australia so that they wouldn`t get called up to fight. |

I can't be arsed to dig up the whole background info load on this movie, but We Were Soldiers is based on authentic experiences by vietnam vets, among other things a book written by Hal Moore and Joe Galloway, who both participated at the battle of Ia Drang. Jury's still out on how true Gibson is to the book and the rest of his material, but saying that the movie is disgraceful just cos Gibson didn't fight in the war himself is both unfair and fallacious.
Also, Apoc Now isn't really a nam war movie, as Nam just provides the setting. The points made in the movie are not about war per se. It's a brilliant movie nonetheless with hair-raising imagery, but for a movie truly about Nam I'd suggest Platoon or FMJ. IMO, Apoc Now is more about what man is really capable of when pushed far enough. |

| To my knowledge, and talking to Vietnam Vets. "Apocalypse Now" best describes the Horrer that the soldiers seen in the jungle that actually took place. To this day a few of the vets still sleep with a gun or a knife at there side. |
