Hey everyone,
So on St. Patrick's day the Gaslamp Qtr throws a big music party. Flogging Molly's going to be there (irish folk crossed with punk, different in a good way) so I'm probably going to go.
Earlier in the evening, "NRG" is listed as playing. Description = "High Energy Dance".
Anyone have any insight on "NRG"? They (he?) are only playing for an hour, and it's early.. 7:40-8:40 I'm wondering what I can expect for that puny hour of time..?

Floggin Molly was good but the place was so slammed. They need to quadruple the number of porta potties and add another street block!
BTW, "NRG" playing "high energy dance" was a disappointment. If the printed schedule was right, and it was NRG when it was supposed to be, they were playing popular dance, things like "Play that Funky Music White Boy" and stuff. On the other end of the venue, the DJ was spinning some good stuff early, then he went all hip-hop. At around midnight he was spinning some good EDM also, and it was amusing to see people dancing to it outside the fences, but I had to get home for work.
An amazing amount of beautiful women and overall good music, marred by being absolutely smashed up against everyone (literally couldn't move for minutes at times) and drunks peeing in the street because there weren't enough porta potties. |

Sounds like Street Scene.
I use to go because it was fun to be walking around the streets downtown with a drink in your hand. Plus they use to have a decent EDM presence. Saw CL spin the best set I ever heard him do at Street Scene. But it got way to crowded and last year the choice of bands was disappointing. All you do is wait in line to get a drink then get in line to use the bathroom. Plus no EDM at all!
Skipped it last year and didn't miss it at all. And thats sad because I use to look so forward to it. |

I think I went to the last good street scene. Flogging Molly played that one (first time I'd heard of them) and they rocked it better than any of the major headliners, IMO. I believe they had DJ Icey spinning that night, too. Had a great time between the two and hanging out in the jazz area. We didn't find it to be too crowded at all, it was nothing like this shamRock thing.
Last year I skipped Street Scene since I heard it was basically going to be targeted at a "younger audience" by dropping EDM, dropping jazz, dropping the whole stages at the end of streets idea and just going the big outdoor concert with stages and really big headliners route. They had record attendence, so you can bet they're going to stick with that format.. What's funny is I heard these same "younger audience" types talking about how much this last street scene sucked when we were on the trolley.. |
