I tought I might share this interview with Armin van Buuren. Some of you might have already read it but other might not...
This interview is from i:vibes . All I have to say about what he says is:
HE`S ONE OF US!!
Interview with AvB:
Heres how a brief on him, by the man himself:
Armin: "My parents always used to listen to a lot of different music,
especially names like Mozart, Jean-Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze.
I have an extensive DVD collection and a N64. I have a lovely
girlfriend Erika, I recently bought a house and I've devoted my
life to my first and only real passion: Music."
-You've been declared as the god of trance at the moment, along
with Ferry Corsten and Tiesto; but with your constant
immaculate productions and mixing a lot of people argue that
you top the charts, what do you feel about that??
Armin: "I feel that it has just begun. Due to the fact that I'm still a
college-student, I can only spend half the time I would like to
spend on my productions. Wait and see in a couple of years..."
-How about any talent which is coming up that we should be aware of??
Armin: "Everything Dutch I would say... =)"
-Whats your tune choice of the moment?
Armin: "At the moment, it would be Iio- Rapture but my favorite ever is Phil collins- In the Air Tonight (Ben Liebrand Remix)"
-What do you think about mp3s? in general, in light of the
you played a quality canadian mp3 group; hibernate - mane sonitus track on IDT
radio a few weeks ago.
Armin: "It's illegal to download music without permission from the
copyright owner. On the other hand: I wouldn't be as famous
as I am now without mp3 so..."
-Any plans for the future? Productions? CDs? Mixes? etc?
Armin: "Album, definitely. Armin van Buuren album. Other than that, can't tell you much else =p"
-What do you see the future of trance to be? and what do you feel about the current trance scene?
Armin: "I'll never change my style, and I do not tend to follow hypes and
trends in the music in my productions. Trance will always be there.
The name has been ruined by a lot of major companies who brought
us compilation with the name 'Trance 2000' but with artists like
DJ Jean. That's NOT trance."
-You recently remixed Ayumi Hamasaki - Appears, one of the biggest Japanese artists around; a lot of people are wondering why you remixed it; but did you enjoy the track?
Armin: "I got to choose from 5 or 6 from Ayumi's tracks. This track
really gave me the shivers, even though I didn't know what she
was singing. :)"
-Anyone in the music industry you would like to work with?
Armin: "Wait and see... its gonna be big!!!"
-You're on tour in the US this coming week.. Will the recent developments in the news affect any of that?? coz people are dying to see you!
Armin: "We shouldn't let these terrorists control our lives.
I'm deeply hurt by everything that happened in the US on the 11th.
Coming to the US would show the terrorists that we're not afraid and
will continue with life as we like it. I will be there this coming week, so check www.armin.nl for my tourdates!!!"
-Well said!! and how about Avb In Motion 003, that was a great compilation! any comments?
Armin: "Thanks for the compliment. But wait for it!, there will be a 004! coming up next year! (looking to be in March 2002!)"
-In general, what do you see as being the most important aspects of your life?
Armin: "The Music and electronics."
Theres the latest from AvB; brought to you by I:Vibes

Yeah, good interview. Thanks for that.
I really respect Armin, especially as a producer. When he was only 21 (which I am now) he wrote what I consider to be the best trance tune ever, 'Communication'. Only a REAL trancemeister could have written this masterpiece! But besides that, he's a normal guy, with a normal life, with a passion for quality music, and with undoubtable great musical talent.
Even if he'd stopped his entire musical career right after he wrote 'Communication', his talent would never have been doubted. It's just like Paul McCartney, who wrote 'Yesterday' when he was 23, and even if he hadn't written anything else, the world would still worship him :D
For me, Armin is a very important influence, both in terms of songwriting and just general taste in music. |

interesting....
I kinda like armin, not too much though, not a huge fan of uplifting, but it has its moments. :D
His best tune is his older Communication tune.
I would love to see a remix Utada Hikaru's tunes. I think she looks a lot better then Ayumi Hamasaki. Johnny Vicious did an awesome remix of Automatic from Utada Hikaru. |
