I know this probably seems pretty funny to most of ya'll, but I really don't know things like this yet.
Question:
What's the difference in Filter & Filter Envelope? |

Filter is used to remove certain frequencies from a source signal. Filter envelope dictates how Filter Cutoff (essentially, Filter Cutoff determines the frequency or range of frequencies to be removed) changes over time. A typical 4 stage ADSR (Attack Decay Sustain Release) envelope will affect Filter Cutoff in the following manner:
NOTE: Filter Envelope will only work if Filter Cutoff is NOT at its maximum setting; the best way to hear how Filter Envelope works is to set Filter Cutoff to minimum and Filter Envelope Amount to maximum.
Attack: determines how long it will take for Filter to go from the current value set by Filter Cutoff, to the value set by Filter Envelope Amount, after the note has been struck.
Decay: determines how long it will take for Filter to reach the frequency dictated by the Sustain setting once the Attack stage has passed.
Sustain: determines the Filter frequency at the end of the Decay stage.
Release: determines how long it takes the Filter to reach the frequency set by Filter Cutoff after the note has been released. Amplifier Envelope Release setting must be around 50% and Filter Cutoff setting should be pretty low to hear the full effect of the Filter Envelope Release stage.

REMIDI did an excellent job of explaining it, but I'll throw in a visualization aid.
If your filter frequency is all the way down to zero, you probably won't hear much if anything. Imagine slowly manually raising the filter from 0 to 10. You've just simulated what happens when the envelope attack is set to a high value. Raise it from 0 to 10 as fast as possible this time, and now you see what happens with the attack set to 0. Just visualize that the envelope is making the filter frequenct knob/slider move automatically.
