Reverb'ing only some sounds

Okay heres another thing I is wondering bout.

how can i only reverb the consanants in vocals i.e "S's and T's"

I realise that this can be partially achieved through messing with the damping and stuff but I can never seem to get it properly.

but there must be a Reverb VST out there somewhere that makes it easy....

is there?

just use a regular reverb and automate the send levels at the point you want to apply reverb to.
Freak
I have done similar to this in real studios.

You may find it complicated however....

Split the signal into two.
Run the primary signal through an Effects send- you must send it pre fader.
Run the effects send through a gate.
Take the output from the gate and put that into a reverb.

Take the split signal, and run it through a graphcic Eq. boost the 5k region (where sybilance occurs) and cut the rest.
take the output from the eq and run it into the sidechain on the gate.

Now, you will hear the original signal through your desk as normal, but when the required sybilant sounds occur, they will trigger the gate to open, and send the effect send to the reverb...

Adapt that to suit your virtual studios how you will, but i have used this to great effect on vicals before- so when the vocal level increases, you get reverb/delay on it, but not when its quiet.

There are a dozen other ways of doing it.
You could for example, eq the effects send to only contain the required frequencies, and just have them going into the reverb unit.

ok i think in theory what im about to suggest would work but i dont know if it will accutally work. what you can try doing is running in your fx chain a filter then reverb then filter again then reverb then filter again and reverb. i dont know how it will work but i think in theory itd work being that th reverb would only get the sound the filter is outputting. however i doubt this would work, but i know in fruity loops reverb plugin you can work with the lowcut and high cut to isolate a certain frequency range and have just that reverbed. so might try either

ahh, 2 things you should know...

I dont know anything about send.
and I dont know anything about splitting signals...

but thanks anyway :)

What sequencer do you use? I'm assuming whatever it is, it probably has effects busses and track automation?

With this technique, you want to load an reverb effect on a bus, then draw automation so that the vocal track only sends to the bus when you specify, i.e at certain consonants.

However, I really like some of Freak's ideas, I'll have to steal those, thanks ;)

I use fruityloops...

what the hell do u mean by bus? :conf:

anyways... if your saying what I think your saying....

manually setting it would be a pain in the ass.
Limit
since your not using anything suitable to whats needed to do in in the latter then you could simply chop the part of the vocal that you want reverbed and set it to another track, then reverb it. Put your dry vocal track that you just chopped into the track and then put your new slice at the appropriat place(where u chopped it), then slice out the part that you have had reverbed in your dry vocal track. If you are using delays on the (so called dry vocal track) then do what I said and mix down the two tracks(dry vocal and reverbed) then add your delay. I dont use fruity and I'm not sure if yoru even able to do this in fruity...but this is the easyiest way to do this if you don't know whats going on.
