Look how far out the ocean was pulled before the wave came in...You can see boats stranded on the sand and a (formerly submerged) coral reef showing completely...It looks like people just were walking out on the sand in awe, not knowing what was coming.
To get a sense of size, compare the normal 3-4 ft waves in the first few pics with the wall of ocean coming in behind them at 150mph...amazing.

no way
i mean damn, its so sad that you see the smiling faces of those who perished. But- these were HIS pictures.......his view, his eyes- and you get the feeling he got right before he had to scramble and say "forget the pictures, im out of here"
and i mean- im not meaning to come off as an insensitive prick, but seeing his face made me appreciate not only the pictures, but HIM.
and i pray for his family. |

personally, i think it's essential that they show the picture....
otherwise, it's just a "here's some mad waves from a random camera"
including the picture reminds you that included in the mad waves, those individual peoples lives ended because of it :( |

I agree, Senor Pink.
If whomever took these pictures was worth a damn, they would appreciate the fact that they were remembered for bringing to the world a better sense of what truly happened here. I don't find it insensitive at all, and am more offended at the thought that someone would be trying to preserve some anonymous sanctity for the dead by *not* showing the photos of them - as though their life and times were not something to be proud of.
At the very least, I would want that picture of me there if I had died. That's all I can truly judge on. |
