i hope you dont mind me asking but what on earth are you doing making trance with absynth? theres a thousand and one VAs that are arguably more suited to the job. absynth is great for wandering, spaced out instrument sounds and atmospheres. you can get bread and butter trance anywhere else but you cannot get this kind of evolving absynth sound out of any other synth. instead of using presets, try programming it. i thought it was difficult at first but now that ive gotten the basics, its very well laid out and makes it very easy to go back to a previous stage and rework something.

which synths are the best for trance? i didnt like the "noob" sounding synths of fl studio!

i feel it nesscery to point you at the fruity internal plugins comp thread. the internal fruity synths are powerfull just not a walk in the park to program nicely.

this is a bit of a loaded question. but ill try to answer it. most trance type sounds (and im refering to the JP80X0 style supersaw sound) are built from detuned saw waves oscillators with high detune spread. quite a few fruity synths can generate detuned saw waves - 3osc being the most notable. however the less restrictive synths that have more detune options and various different saw type oscillators as well as stereo panning effects to liven things up. softplug adventus is one. reFX vanguard is another. both have demos and you should check them out. these are refered to as subtractive virtual analogue synths. ive explained the term somewhere on this forum before but it was long and my fingers ache so ill have to point you to google.

absynth is a semi modular synth. whereas with vanguard and 3osc, the modules are fixed, absynth gives you more routing options. the other end of the scale is reaktor which is fully modular.

to simplify.

in vanguard each oscillator is hardwired to an LFO and the signal goes through a single filter. which is then modulated by an envelope.

in absynth the oscillators and filters are hardwired but you can choose the destination of the LFOs and the envelopes. its half way between vanguard and reaktor.

in reaktor you can choose any number of modules and put them in any order. you can, for example have multiple filters and you can determine what order they are in.

more modulation options allow you to make more parts of the sound move automatically or independantly of each other. this is why absynth is so good for pads and atmospheres - because you can generate swirling, evolving type sounds by automating many parts of the sound via the LFO and envelopes. reaktor can potentially go further but you are limited severely by CPU load and the programming ability of the person building the synth. absynth can do simple saw waves with unison, detune and stereo spread. but you are missing out a HUGE part of what makes this synth unique. you can do trance leads on vanguard well enough which has very little modulation options. what you cannot do on vanguard is make evolving atmospheres. so if you have this amazing synth, i cant help but feel you are sidelining an aspect of absynth which is what its all about.

like i said, try out reFX vanguard and get some of the free banks that come with (DHS signiture bank i think is one). theres hundreds of trance type presets for you to deconstruct and rebuild and learn from.
