So I'm mostly a digital photographer, and this spring really wanna take everything to another level. This, however, means actually having and working with hard copies of pictures on paper. As of now, the only way i've been able to get my pictures on paper was one of those ty kodak machines at cvs :(
So i was wondering if people would recommend going to print shops, or if you'd recommend a photo printer (which ideally makes the most sense to me), then what specs should i look at/ what models specifically?
thanks!

if you want to enlarge your photos to say 30x40 cm or something, then you best choice is to go to a professional photoprinting shop and talk to them (if you do this, be sure to calibrate your screen/PS to the same ICC color profile as the machine they use to print larger prints).
If you just want to get 10x15 cm and up to A4 copies of your photos a photoprinter would suit your needs, I've heard good things about Canon's Pixma series of photoprinters.

However, I'm not sure how much all the photopapers and inkcartridges costs compared to the price at that Kodak store you mentioned, but I think it's cheaper with the consumer photoprinter in the long run. |

| Of course you can send it to print at a professional place. The size of prints depends on the numbers of pixels . Or you can buy a photo printer which is expensive at first. Depending how serious you are about this, it can cost you a lot. Bottom line, if you are going to occasionally print pictures, go to the pros and if you are serious and will print a lot then buy a printer |

for prints, i always go professional. The only pain in the ass thing about them is that they tend to change colours on ya.. so either find a place that will listen to you when you say "no colour adjustments and no cropping" or.. go to a strictly professional photo developing store...and do it there.. they will understand any concern you have.
any other place that just does printing along side grocery shopping or whatever are good, and usually cheaper but they tend to play around with colour adjustments or so forth.. |
