I don't like to dis anyone - or anyone who works for this company. But I have, in the past, done my taxes with H&R (for 2 years) and both those years I was re-assessed (and I MEAN ASSED)...Doing it yourself is better than doing than doing it with H&R...they really don't have much a clue - I am not saying all of their reps but most of them...

unless you're self-employed or have a complicated financial situation for whatever reason...there's really not a whole lot that can be done to "work the numbers" outside of commiting what amounts to fraud, lol.

The numbers are what they are, no matter who prepares your return...you, H&R Block, or a top tax accountant with a major firm ;)

H&R Block's benefit? Money on the spot (for a fee) and a properly prepared return (in theory) if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Remember, anyone preparing your return is relying on YOU to clearly portray your financial situation...they can ask questions, find out if you're forgetting to claim certain deductions, or can advise you on how to reduce your tax payable, but there's really no "magic" to be worked for most of us.

now if you're self employed, run your own company, etc...that's entirely another matter and you'll benefit from someone who really knows their stuff :D

yes, silke, for the past three years, ray has been in the same boat with the student loans. they told him tho that if there is a huge need for that money then next year he can apply for the payment to be reduced or something. maybe they can take less of a chunk. they are pricks at the collections office anyways. they told him that 25 dollars after paying rent and bills should be enough for him to live on for a month (to get food and to get around town).

25 bucks barely lasts 2 days witth the price of stuff these days...

even if he were to buy a loaf of bread every 2 days for the whole month, that would be about 28 bucks right there...

Depends on who you get at H&R, they've been awesome for me. Last year I got cash back for no charge (only for students) and it costed something like $20 for the return, meanwhile they were giving me advice on what to bring in to get more money back.

if not, who does it instantly???

I did it last year, cause i didnt want to wait.

They give you the return instantly, BUT its in the form of Western Union Credit Note. You can cash them at your bank, or a western union location.

The mall i got it done in didnt have a Scotia, so i had to trek to find one. :whip: :whip:
