I heard that people had experienced some problems running some audio production software on a G5 iMac. A friend of mine is looking to purchase a G4 eMac to run cubase. does anyone know of any problems that might arise by using a very basic model apple like the eMac? i mean i know it wont be a G5 powermac or anything, but for someone just getting started on a budget of around $1000 US, will this setup be ok?

i have both an Apple eMac G4 and Powerbook G4's in my studios, and they are awesome. I picked up the eMac dicontinued from CompUSA for like 400 bucks. It's prob the cheapest G4 you will come across. The only recomendations i have for you is, eventually you want to consider maxing out the ram, 2 512 168 pin should do the job (depending on the model you get). You cant get better than apple when it comes to audio production. I was all about pc's untill i got the emac.

don't listen to anyone
some people are very biased (guy above that said apple)
no offense , he might have his reasons, but for some people Apple is the perfect solution
For your friend, a PC might be a perfect solution
i for one use a pc, simply because i dont like the mac interface,
performance wise..apple is not better..64 bit cpus like Xeon or athlon actualy beat a G5, but thats not the point
once again
it is what ever he feels comfy the most
i wouldnt get an e mac and use it a s a production machine
better save up
almost anyone will tell you that
(that has some experience)
good luck!

I am purchasing a new mac G5 next month hopefully quite looking forward to fitting it into my studio, I have been well impressed by the demo's I've tried on macs.
They look very decent.

By the way that mouse on that studio pic is nice, i like the blue light :D
