ok guys...this must be the most embarrassing thread i've started to date, however, seeing that some of us are in this situation, i thought i'd come out of my cave and ask:
i'm currently unemployed and looking for work. even though i've been focusing all of my efforts on searching for employment in the legal/ non-profit sector (human rights law) over the last few months, my financial situation has now deteriorated to a point where i am left with no choice but to take anything into consideration -not particularly scrubbing toilets, even though that's what it feels like. :(
I would really appreciate if any of you could help me out or if any of you have any ideas or suggestions. I have been on every job search engine under the sun, but i think at this point what i need is perhaps a personal referral. My first choice would still be to work as a legal assistant/ paralegal (preferrably in an immigration law firm)...however, since i am so specialized in human rights law/ immigration and international refugee law there's not that many options since i am not a lawyer, but an international lawyer.
either way, anything admin related would do for now or something even to do with customer service...before i start 'cracking nuts' with heidi on an assembly line, which doesn't seem so bad right now! :p
thanks so much for your input and help!!!

Whats embarrasing about not being able to find work? We have all had the displeasure of trying to find a job many times in our lives.
Be ashamed if you are a bad person, not because you can't find work.
Good luck! |

if you're willing to work for market research, let me know.
it's an easy job, no stress, no sales. all you do is collect data and do surveys.
pay is around $7.75 to start you could get a raise in 3 months based on performance, and no restrictions on how many days to work or mandatory weekends shifts.
shifts run in the afternoon usually 5-10 (some running later), location is Bloor and Sherbourne.
all you need is excellent english communication skills and typing.
i know the call center of our company hires new people all the time.
good luck :) |

Very nicely said.
Whether you're employed or not says nothing towards your character; the employment lottery is one big crapshoot. I consider myself extremely fortunate that I've not been without a job for long.
I wish you all the best in finding a new job. Let us know when you do, and we shall light up the proverbial cigars in your honor. |

Silke is one person that would definitely add to the Republik staff but not on the street level. Higher promotion level. She has a lot of contacts with Montreal and would be a great asset. |

thanks so much for all of your immediate responses and kind words!!!
...margie, margie....hahahahaha @ 'street level'. :p
but yea i know of justin, -i've spoken to him once or twice over the phone, and know also one of his co-workers who drives the 'magic bus'.
well, i can always check it out. it is true i have a lot of influential contacts in the afterhours scene in Mtl, but i think something more 'day-time' related would be better. but you never know, right? event management & promotion is definitely also one of my strengths! :) |
