It is one thing to post a liveset of a radio broadcast - it is quite another to post a bootleg. The DJs that spin on radio shows or at clubs that are live-to-air know there is a good chance someone might record it/distribute it and the DJ/radio station know that and that's why you get those annoying inserts every once in a while to remind of the source of what you're listening to is.

While I have posted some in the past (Chicane - Live at Palladium) - I was not one of the primary sources for it (I got it off Napster originally) and I never helped 'promote' the event by mentioning it on the main page for weeks.

The last thing I need is a record company and/or artist think that I am endorsing widespread distribution of bootlegged sets. Even when I had recorded Max Graham's set here in Toronto from radio I emailed him asking if I could post it since it had Sepia (a track he was working on) in it... I let him download the set first and then he said it was fine to post it since it had so many radio voiceovers anyways.

As for mentioning all this on the forums, this is low-key and not wide-spread like the main page, and it's your area to speak so that's cool... but as much as I'd love for everyone to hear the set and the energy of the crowd I can't take the risk of posting it on the main page.

Now, Avenjah, you know what I meant by politics. :D

Next time Armin is in the chatroom after his ID&T radio show this Thursday I'll ask him how he feels about it. (yes, it's really him).

I understand where the Swamper is coming from. Interesting to note, Orkidea posts every set he spins by himself. I get the feeling that he's being preventative, or perhaps has embraced the whole digital music thing? Either which way, his set was mad, and whenever it is floating around... I'd like to nab that. :)

yaq i understand totally....but swamper i havent read the whole thread but i dont thik anyone asked u to post it on the mainpage or to host it period...we're all just looking for it for our own personal reasons....And i would love to get my hands on it as well since i missed armin due to a soccer game i had that same morning....lol went raving then went straight to my soccer game and played a horrible game but took the best shot i have taken in my life....=)

Actually, Vivid... I think that somebody may have mentioned in passing that it'd be appreciated if Swamper might help with the hosting.

But, if this is only for us, I may be able to provide some bandwidth... =)
TranceGeek
yea nihilist, hook us up... post the d/l info only on this thread so only the people who actually attended the party can d/l the set...

As soon as I have it, linkage will occur. =)

If I was a DJ and I knew that somebody always bootlegs my sets and distributes it, I would simply record each of my sets and link to it from my own web-site. The result would the same - people listening to my set. But this way people also think more of you as a good person.
Nihilist
Ah. Now we're getting into dangerous territory. By distributing it yourself, are you denying yourself income since people aren't buying it, they just download? Or do you just provide the live sets, and expect people to buy albums and singles? Sooo many different options.

Better then the RIAA's heavy-handed 'mp3s are illegal' stance. (Well, the format isn't, but the distribution, etc, is...)

So, uh, yeah. It'll be the smaller, more progressive labels and/or arists that drive the digital music scene.

Uhm. That was waaaay off topic. Somebody give me the sets so I can post them! =)
