if all you want to do is play your vinyls then any record player will do, I suggest something by pioneer or kenwood, they are decent consumer level equipment.
on a related note, I have a question:
does anybody know if playing your records on these lower quality record players will damage them, or wear them out faster than normal?
for example, if you played your favorite record once a day on a crappy record player(without cueing or scratching) for a month, as opposed to playing it the same way on a tech12 with a $300 stylus will it make them wear out faster? |

No. Just make sure that your needle is in good shape, and that your TT-arm is in good balance (not too heavy)
As for FastOne: if you just want to play your records, follow the advice of RavingLunatic. Any recordplayer will do.
If you want to mix your records, then I would say, go to your equipment store, ask for advice. I had a JB systems and a Soundlab. I prefer the Soundlab. Much cheaper than the Technics, and for starters good enough. You learn it maybe faster on Technics, but you learn it more thoroughly on cheaper ones, because they're not as stable as Technics. I even started out in the real beginning with a Fischer and a Sony; they had a button-pitchcontrol, so you had to turn the buttons to get the right pitch! Awful! But now I'm happy I started out with that, because I can play on every TT, even on the crappiest one. Many people who start with Technics can't handle those very old TT's without a fader-pitch (don't know the exact english word, I hope you understand waht I'm trying to say!) |

okay, I doubt the needle is good.. I might have slowed some records down and played some records backwards on it.. regular record player needles don't like that :)
balance is probably ok.. maybe I should buy a new needle for that thing..
nah.. saving up for my signature.:D |
