I can't stress this enough, this is called phrasing, and if there in phrase it makes it a load easier, plus it sounds better, can't really add anything else to the post, but just remember, you DON'T want beatcounters of any kind and just practice LOADS, its easy to learn but dam hard to master like people have said, and Trancespeeders advice on gettin the same 2 records is very good, this way you can also practice syncing and phrasing easier, by puttin them both on quarts lock (makes them beatmatched right away cos there the same record) and then you can practice lining them up from there.

I did alot of practice when starting out using 2 very plain techno records that are about 8 minutes long each and sound similar, I still pull them out now and then to screw around with them, ahhh the good ol days.

He said it takes ages to MASTER it not it takes ages to be better than you at it. Most DJs haven't mastered beatmtching and that is OK because it takes a long ass time. If you have a shaky mix every now and again and you can't ride the pitch perfectly without touching your vinyl except to cue it then you haven't mastered beatmatching.

I see what your saying Zild. Thanks for clearing that up.

When I still had my crappy deck to mix on I used Envy - Falling for practice, didn't use 2 copies, but it has a clear bassdrum so I found it quite easy with that to mix it into other stuff.

it sounds as if your needles aren't weighted properly...there should have been instructions with your cartridges on how to weight the needles

just an observation - you dont really NEED 2 of the same track to learn to beatmatch... especially if its your first couple of records....

id suggest (if you can) go to your record store, flip through some tracks and have a listen to any that catch your eye...

if you're just trying to learn to beatmatch your main goal is to practice getting 2 tracks to play in time with eachother which for all purposes is making sure the kicks play at the same time... if youre on somewhat of a budget when you go out to buy tracks spend the $ on multiple diff tracks rather than 2 copies of the same track... once you get beatmatching down youre left with an extra record taking up space in your bag... IMO id rather go and buy 2 diff tunes, that way when you make ur next purchace, you have 2 tunes you know well rather than 1

of course if you can afford it, by all means go for it, my opinions are based on the fact that im poor :D and for me lunch money = new records... need a job:whip:

they just arrived so lets go on decks and check them out...
