Aubrey Richards The Fake!!!

A few weeks back i went to inside on a Friday, had a great time and Richards dropped some pretty sick jams... After the club a buddy of mine tells me that he went into the Dj booth (when Aubrey was spinning). It turns out that my buddy saw the turntables (all 3) turning with no records on them!!! thats right he was just flipping through his cd collection and letting them play! I honestly didn't believe him at all, after all Aubrey Richards is a very notable Dj and good Dj's don't do like that....
So i went this Friday to INSIDE and decide to do a little investigating myself. So i walked up to the Dj booth peeked over and there it was 3 turntables stopped and him flipping through his cd case. I literrally stood there in disbelief for about 10minutes and let me tell you he didn't even play one record. So i went to tell another music-loving buddy of mine what was going on, he didn't believe me either so i took him over to the Dj booth to show him. At this point Aubrey noticed us and he proceeded to put an lp on the turntable, so i was thinking to myself hmmm maybe he's going to start spinning for real now... When i looked back into the booth (about 1 minute later) the lp was no longer on the turntable and all 3 TURNTABLES WERE STOPPED!!! My buddy was so pissed off that he just left... I quickly followed suit and left the club myself...
What is the DJ world coming to??? like how low of a dj do you have to be to play mixed cd's at a nightclub? Whats even more funny is that the crowd is going nuts!! i'm figuring that most of those people there don't know and probably don't care, which in itself is quite sad. Whats even more f-cked is you would think that once playing cd's every week he would at least play different ones and play different music, yeah right! Since the first day i went to that club and every time i go to that club he always plays that stupid f-cking song "SMOKE MACHINE, SMOKE MACHINE" (its on MOS - The Annual 2002 cd1 near the end)... Well i just think that what he's doing is just hurting and i doubt i'll ever go back to that club knowing he's there or any other venue where he might playing at... In my books Aubrey Richards is dead....
Theres some other club called ARIA that i've heard is really good on Fridays, i guess this will be my new destination...
As for the people who pay that joker to spin at INSIDE, namely ZRF Productions, shame on you for allowing such activities to happen... Its bad business and it creates bad reputations....
anyway, i think i've wrote enough....
PS. The State 01 party was pretty kicking; i met a lot of you guys yesterday but i just wasn't in the party mood.... I think it was Trance-Armada who gave me the "Hello My name is ____ " sticker... Good thinking!! However i never did get to see the Trancaddict banner!! |

mm dude, they could be spinning CDs. There is many DJ-CD players on the market (hey, there's DJ-MD, DJ-DAT players etc...)
(many DJs, including Danny Tenaglia have said that they prefer to spin CDs, I've seen Saeed and Palash as well spin CDs) |

That does sound ridiculous, especially if he really wasn't spinning CDs at all. Are you sure?
I do think it's unfair to make the comment about it being sad that people didn't notice, after all didn't you say you didn't notice yourself the first time? I mean, if there's good music being played, is it all that unreasonable that people are going wild with it?
Sure, most of us on this site would agree that a truly great DJ is one that can select tracks and mix wit skill, taking into account the crowd at each moment. But even the greatest DJs are sometimes not right on. Yet, if a famous DJ plays good tracks with bad mixing or back timing for a particular track, everyone still cheers. C'mon guys, admit it. LOL! |

Well, then like I said, that's ridiculous, those of us who care about quality DJing (i.e. "real" DJing) probably won't go see the guy again, and those people who can't tell the difference or don't care will, which is just fine by me. The promoters have to decide who's business they care about. |

| Hmmm...one thing bothers me, if this guy really was spinning a mixed CD then I would imagine that it's something that he wouldn't do usually because which club owner is going to pay a DJ to spin a mixed record ? Face it there are plenty of ppl with real talent who could easily be hired to spin at clubs. I'm guessing that maybe something was wrong with the TT and that's why he played the CD. Otherwise this DJ (I've never heard of him btw) would have to be a real dumbass. |

Finally some responses from fellow tranceaddicts!
Well i know for sure that he's played some mixed cd's, and i mean just put them in and let them play! (the buddy of mine who first told me knows Richards and was in the booth flipping thru his cd case!!!)
Aubrey Richards is no doubt a good Dj; he played after PVD back in Feb and i attended a boat cruise this summer and he ripped it up!! The point is that i know he can spin, but i think he's just getting lazy at this residency of his... I would understand if one week he is feeling that great and he pops on a couple of cd's; but doing it everyweek is just plain wrong and unfair to all the people (such as myself) who go in there to hear the man spin!
Recently many people have been talking about how Mark Oliver has been fadding and is boring, etc. But Every week for 6 hours he spins a set and to the best of my knowledge never plays cd's... Now i have to give the man respect because he earns his paycheck and has at least that much respect for himself. Can you imagine if Mark was to stand up there and drop mixed cd's???
About not noticing, you'd would never expect something like that to be going on anyway! your dancing to kool tracks you look up and you see Richards playing with the mixer lookin like he's mixing... If i wasn't told in the first place i would have never thought to go and peak into the booth...
anyway, i hope Aubrey Richards cleans up his act! :whip:
PS> How could 3 turntables not be working for several weeks? and the guy who comes on before him actually spins lps.... |
