For metalgearsolid:
People will believe in the conspiracy theory of an ice age or an asteroid hitting the earth or little grey space aliens than they do of a globalization plan disguised as either a peace or economic initiative.
To create a North American economic space that provides new opportunities for individuals in all three countries, the Task Force makes the following recommendations aimed at establishing a seamless North American market, adopting a North American approach to regulation, increasing labor mobility, and enhancing support for North American education programs.
The Task Force’s central recommendation is establishment by 2010 of a North American economic and security community, the boundaries of which would be defined by a common external tariff and an outer security perimeter.

look, i don't want to get in a juvenile rant with you (something i have been guilty of many times). believe it or not i respect your opinion on this and other topics. there is a current thread on the Pat Robertson debacle that may have not necesitated a bump...but thats small potatoes compared to the respect i have of your opinion.

Okay that was a bit weird, but thanks I do honestly feel good that somewhere you and many others like you are reading my posts.
This thread is a tad stale I know, but I don't want to hijack that other thread with cries of foul play.
There is someone pulling the strings on the 700 Club poster boy and I thought I'd share some old information to say Mr. Chavez' story is not new. |

| So you believe that this is a bad thing? Understand that I can not read seventy pages in a fast time but from what I can see this will be like the EU or European Union. What is so wrong with that? |

With no borders and no sovereignty there will still be poverty, crime, famine, death, disease, etc.
So then what is the agenda behind all of this globalization? If it's not going to help depressed ecomomies then who does it benefit? |

| this hugo chavez guy has to go. personally, i wouldnt care if he cut off the oil. this country needs some incentives to speed up the progress of enviromentally friendly fuels and exercise. cars will be cleaner, people will be healthier, more likely to ride a bike or walk, and take a car everything, cities will be built much more ergonomically for the pedestrian. |

I personally don't like Hugo Chavez, the man. He however was elected by the Venezuelans as their president and he survived the attempt to overthrow him in the past. I firmly will wait until 2006 or 2007 when his term is up to see what happens. If he fancies himself to be a Fidel Castro type then Venezuela will become stuck in a time warp ala Cuba, but that is a while down the road.
It was truly remarkable, I watched a the PBS American Experience program of Fidel Castro, how could a man who championed so much for Cubans at the onset and overthrew the corrupt Fulgencia Batista regime still feel it in his purpose to maintain power for so long. |

Chavez' term will be over then, hovewer, he will do everything in his power to stay. Like I mentioned earlier, he's planning on staying until 2030. He was voted in the beginning, but now it's just ridiculous how much cheating is going on at these votes and people are pressured to vote for him. I for a fact know that at the votings, the machines were altered so the votes get changed. As a Venezuelan I think it's hard to say, but the country is going further to the ter. I just hope something happens before it's too late, which it already might be... |

The funny thing is that if the military wanted him out of their tomorrow he would be a goner, that is also scary at the same time since they helped him stay in power in the first place. |

He helps the military a lot, they get pretty good benefits and salaries compared to other jobs. In fact, many kids want to be in the military because of that. At one point the military was splitting into two, pro Chavez and the opposition. I don't know the situation now, but imagine this...it could break out a civil war, or at least a nasty coup d'etat. Probably similar to the coup that Chavez himself organized back in the day to get Carlos Andres Perez out of presidency. I'm pretty worried :( |
