cool maybe ill check her out next time she comes to town ... diversity is good and alot more fun than a set of straight linear music ...

but i cant stand incessant banging music ... and thats why i generally dont go out to see techno djs ... does miss b play like that?

(i dont mind techno when its played @ a housier tempo like youd hear in a danny howells, steve lawler or john digweed set)

Im glad i made it out last night. It was my first time seeing Mistress B, and I have to say, I was really impressed. I could not stop dancing throughout her set. And after her set, Dekoze, perfect ending to a good night. As Aaron said, the crowd was extra sketchy last night, not really the "System" crowd I am used too. But as always, it was a pleasure to hang out with all the TA's: the usual suspects, and some new ones too! All I have to say is that the TOTA energy on the dancefloor is just increasing at a phenomenal rate!! Wicked!! :)

Ok, now I really have to take a break before WMC. :whip: :whip:

I had this same conversation with greg gow a couple of weeks ago, and he said he just can't play an all techno set - people want things mixed up more. I agree, and I hope to see more DJs bridging genres in their sets!

I loved her set - it was different, it was acid, electro, breaks, house, tech house, banging techno at times - it was diverse and it was a WELCOME CHANGE.

I'm so, so pleased that she played the way she did last night. I loved not recognizing 99% of what she played.

According to the crowd's response, Barbara knew what she was doing last night.

first time when i saw her in 2002 she blew my mind away, then last time she was really too much BANG-BANG-y so i didnt know what to expect last night.

she was on the top of ing things, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, good lord was she nasty, dark, funky, trippy, breaky, her set was ing MELTING POT of all genres and people were eating it up.

sadly my fun started just around 3:40 am, too much ing babysitting and running around, i was fed up with bull that some of my friends were pulling up i almost went home around 2-2:30.

BUT I DIDNT

deko ze - ing guy, that remix that he pulled ut a big ass grin on my face

I'd have to disagree there, the crowd I saw was pretty sketchy and dead. It was big, but it wasn't doing much of anything. But who can say whether that had anything to do with the music - I think it just was not a great crowd.

I'll be the first to preach diversity of genre in any set, but I'm sorry to say that she just didn't do it right. Danny Tenaglia knows diversity, his progression between genres is so smooth that you can't even tell it's happening. Barbara's progressions were sudden and jerky and she WAS playing "bang-bang" tracks, just at an abnormally slow tempo.

If this is officially the style she's into now, then I doubt I'll be seeing her again in the near future. I've been known to bust a move to almost every genre of electronic music, but I had to make a pretty conscientious effort to stay on the dance floor with that one. In fairness though, I think Gow's performance did not set a very good tone for Barbara's. They should have put him on first, then Arthur.

dude i dont think thats a fair comparison. you have seen danny T spin crazy long sets, example 17hrs at the docks, he has the time to make it flow well between genres whereas misstress was only spinning a three hour long set.

That's exactly why a DJ shouldn't try to cram too many different genres into a short set. In a 3 hour set there is maybe enough room to progress ONCE from techno to house and back. Doing it every 20 minutes is not a good idea.

my thoughts exactly
i loved the fact that she mixed it up..Kept things fresh for those 3 hours. If this is the direction shes taking then im not complaining :) :)....

one of my top 5 djs easily!!!

uhhh
that was samhouse ..not me..
but yeah what he said :)
Enraptured
I had a great time, it was nice to see most of the gang there! And meet some famous (infamous?) TAs as well! Nice to finally meet Vivid boy and Rodrico!

Rodrico, I totally didn't connect that it was your birthday, dude! I hope it was a good one! I would have bought you a drink! I owe you one.

Special thanks to Brynne (lipstick) for draggin my sorry ass out of my house and down to the club. What can I say, you put a smile on my face! :D

Also getting chatted at by the hottest 16 year old EVAR was pretty interesting... whew... that's all i have to say about that.

All in all, a great night, the sound was not great in the front room, but Eric and Matt made the best of it, great sets from you both! Mistress Barbara I found to be pretty good, but not what I was expecting.

As for Aaron (Diginut)'s comments about the crowd, I'd have to agree to a point. It DID seem like there were a lot of people there who weren't terribly interested in the music... but as word spreads about a club, that's what happens right? Who would want to dance in an empty club because the only people who came out are the REALLY dedicated music lovers? There's a balance in all things grasshopper... the key is to look at the positive!

Good time, great people. That's what makes it all worth it.
