I just heard Storm 3003 - Hong Kong Dragons and the synths and fx sound cool. What can you use to create those sounds?

e.g.

the main plucky soundin one
the trancy one at 1:21 secs
and similar at 2:58
and the violiny strings at 2:16

personally i think its a great song and just from listenin to it with earphones on its taught me alot about the proper use of pans and volume to make a song flow better.

any suggestions?

also can someone point me to an guide or sumthin on things like different types of synth as in soft, hard etc. Also stuff like modules aswell and just a general description of the main features of synths like oscillators, modulation etc.

thx

the main plucky soundin one - Sytrus would be good for this but almost any synth could do this - just make sure you have a fast attack, decay, sustain and release and work on your sound. You could use a preset to start.
the trancy one at 1:21 secs: this is a 'portamento' lead. Use a long sustain or decay and release and set 'glide' to on. Albino 2 would be good for this.
and similar at 2:58 same as above
and the violiny strings at 2:16 - Crystal has good string sounds (and it's free - try 'saddest strings' preset. Also, Edirol Orchestral can play sounds that sound like REAL violins! :)

Hey, thanks very much. I especially wanted to know about how they got it to slide. Thx again.

what did u actually think of the song, i thought it was well made. I've never really listened to anything with that kind of drum n bassy beat, i really liked it tho, makes a change from, kick clap kick clap, or, kick hi hat etc. Do u think the beat would of been sampled from another song?

It's hard to tell if the beat was sampled or original. I did like the song though. :)
