the key

theres a lot of speculation about this 'mixing in key' buisness. apparently it really can get a mix going, so naturally a newcomer like myself would turn an eye to this. I know a bit about chords and stuff but I cant yet determine what key a track is in just by listening to it.

how can i do this or is there anyway around it?

There are probably about 20 humans on the planet that can listen to a song and then just tell you what the key is. You need to play along to the song with a keyboard or a guitar or whatever do find the key. Whatever chord goes the best with the song is its key.

I must be one in 20... (most of the time). Seriously, that number is so much higher. When you have played an instrument for a long time you get used to what chords and pitches sound like so it's not such a big deal.
Science will argue that most people can actually learn perfect pitch.

You just need practice and it will come to you, that is assuming that you are musical.

Read some of the stickies though as it's all in there. Or just send me a tell and I will give you some pointers.

I've heard of people with perfect pitch but I've never actually seen anyone with it. I guess thats what I get for playing mostly precussion instruments my whole life.

there used to be some sort of database about tunes that go well with others on the web somewhere, but i can't find it anymore. anyone got a link to it?
:conf: :conf: :conf:

i'd need to get from
lyric & natali - over emotion (smart system souvenir mix)
or
little wonder - exlipse (fictivision & c-quence remix)
to
airwave - when things go wrong (original)
as short and good sounding as possible, but i don't seem to be able to pull it off no matter what tunes i try with!:whip:

Percussion is good my friend. Always a very useful knowledge to have.
