travelled to Bali, Indonesia before?

has any1 travelled to Bali, Indonesia before?
Tell me what you know of travelling there, staying there and how the place is for prices and such.
I might be heading there for a week in May '05.
Any and all info/help is much appreciated |

Honestly, Bali is the worlds WORST tourist slum trap. Ive never been to a worse place in my life. I stayed in Indonesia for a month and a half, its the worlds most beautiful country, with the friendliest people... with the exception of Bali that makes up for everything else.
If you go there expect crowed and crappy beaches. Someone will be trying to sell you something 24/7, whether its "hash" from a shoe dye bottle, a bemo ride, prostitutes, crappy t-shirts, toilet paper, you name and scum will be trying to sell it to you. I even had an on-duty cop try to sell me the "finest" girls and the best e! Im not kidding you wont get one second of rest from these gorilla marketers!!!
I will say that the terrace rice fields are beautiful, but that whole island has been sold to tourist, nothing is authentic. Its sad that they break about how its a buddhist country, when in fact its the worlds largest Islamic country. There is no real culture there other than suck the white mans wallet dry, but I give them props for taking advantage of those that took advantage of them.
If you go to Indo, go to Maumerry, so so so beautiful. Or go to Yogjakarta and Jakarta. Yogjakarta is rich with history. The people are so friendly and POLITE!!! I cant stress more NOT to go to Bali!!! Also Timor is incredible, what an eye opener, the media doesnt know !!! |

From what Ive heard about Cancun, its not much different... but the same applies to any destination that has suffered the plague of tourism.
ps. Dont buy the hash shoe polish :p I dont do drugs, so it wasnt a problem for me, but I met enough ppl that bought this "bomb" shoe polish... lol... good for a head ache! |
