I actually took advanced neuropsyhcology and E on the brain was my thesis topic:

E is not an addictive drug. here is the simple way of explaining if I can:
the drug forces the axons of a neurotransmitter to release a significant amount or serotonin (the stuff that makes you feel happy and increases energy) into your system, and then immediately closes, thus trapping the serotonin in your system for a good amount of time (this is the reason why the high tends to last 4-5 hours+, because it can't leave your systen until it simply "wears off"). The reason why some may feel it to be addicting is because some people (as karim said, also people with addictive personalities)may have harsh come downs, or mid week blues, and feel the need to use more in order to rid of these sensations....nothing a little puff of weed can't fix! There is also an emotional addiction because people will "miss" the happy feeling of the drug, but there is no evidence of a physical addiction, or withdrawal.

The reason why pure MDMA is worse for you long-term (although the immediate benefits are amazing :) ) is because the more pure the substance is, the more axons that will be damaged with each use....that is a reason why sometimes people feel as if the first time is always the best time....the first time not one of your axons is damaged, therefore permitting as much MDMA into your system as possible, whereas if you have taken it many times, there are many axons that are damaged and the drug can not pass thru the axons into the system because the axon is "dead." Therefore, the drug is trapped in the axon and you do not feel as strong as an effect (hence the reason why normal users tend to take more pills).

I tried to write this in the most unscientific way possible, hope everyone understands what I am trying to write here :)

Really, there IS actual scientific evidence that the axons are damaged?

The whole axon itself, or just certain parts, like the reuptake transporters and vesicles?
karim
This is taken from somewhere else.

The best thing to do after an E high are these:

1) 5-HTP
2) antioxidants: vitamins A,C,E; alpha lipoic acid
3) Vitamin B complex
4) an SSRI such as fluoxetine (Prozac) within 6 hours

- 5-HTP replenishes seratonin. (200 mg when you get home, 200 mg when you go to sleep if not directly after) and 200 mg 1 time ever 4 days to be fully replenished. Expect to have crazy dreams)
- Antioxidants take care of the superoxide species, the product of broken down seratonin which can potentially harm your nerve endings.
- SSRI blocks the re-uptake pumps post synaptic cleft from letting too much seratonin go in and continue to be broken down.

Not sure what the Vit. B does, but whatev, it's healthy.

All in all, if you follow this, you won't feel sketchy and far less depressed.

Somebody on this board once that you should be careful with this info, because if you use it right, it's almost an excuse to do pills. Addictive personality sets in.

:D

I'd rather not drop....I sleep so much better when I don't!!!!!

after the night is done, 2 muscle relaxers, a percocet, and a cup of lemon water..... nighty night..... and the key is to time your bedtime so you sleep through the comedown. iv have managed to do that almost everytime i dropped, wemf i just kept taking pills till the music stopped, then slept for 2 hours till the nasty part of the come down kicked out.... then i got high again:D ..... and the last dark rave i went to, got wacked off my feet, then after the party finnished went down to bronte harbour and just slept on the beech for a few hours. feell almost normal when i wake up albeit a bit fatigued. but the muscle relaxers get rid of the aches and pains and most of all the sore jaw from being a dumbass and chewing gum on E.... bad idea

better than chewing your lip and causing painful damage that lasts for a week.

Eeek.

When you wear off, it's such a ridiculous feeling. I can never sleep normally. And I feel dehydrated for days afterwards.

Just a question. How come pills cost 20-25 downtown and 10 or less uptown? I miss the stuff from a couple of years ago, it was so much better than what's out there now.

Vitamin B increases your motabolism I believe. I imagine getting your hands on prozac ain't that easy. :)

On a side note, if you're having trouble sleeping after a night of partying then take Melatonin with your 5htp. But don't take it all the time because it may screw up your sleep-wake pattern.

I've taken a couple of advils for muscle ache before going to bed a few times but the sleep quality wasn't good. Anyone know the reason for this? So I stay away from any pain-killers altogether after a night of partying.

As others have said, it's so damn hard to find good stuff these days. Ahhh.. the good ol days.

colonelcrisp
as for the sleep trouble caused by advil, i think its just the way the ASA reacts with your body. i take naproxyn which is a perscription muscle relaxer. take two and your body feels like jello, and you sleep sooooo well...

Naproxen is not a muscle relaxer, it is an NSAID.
