Awesome, thanks for that. Heading back to Vancouver soon for a few months. Maybe i should head to toronto for more than just the few weeks we planned. How would i go for just some casual work/getting a place for a month or two?
Sly_Guy
Fishaa, here's all you need to know about toronto.

Clubs:
Boa Redux : www.boa-redux.com
Friday nights, interchanges between techno, hard trance, progressive, breakz and house.
Saturday nights, dark dirty tribal tech. [DDTT] Just filthy funky ass shaking music from start to finish.
Club opens at 1am, does not serve alcohol, closes whenever the DJ decides to stop spinning, which is usually about 10am. International guest probably on 85% of the nights, but the club focuses on up n' coming talent, rather than trying to grab big names all the time. Right now, probably the best crowd with the best vibe and easily the best sound system in the city. Cover varies from $20-30 CDN, with guestlist usually getting you $5 off.

The Guvernment Nightclub : www.theguvernment.com
Big venue, big parties. This is Toronto's 'superclub'. Catering to all types of musical taste, fridays is 'fresh fridays' playing hip hop [if you don't like that music avoid this night like the plague], but saturdays are dance music based. This club usually leans more towards more trance/progressive, but since it's so big it has events which play all styles. This club is also well known for it's larger parties [like decadence, or it's great end of summer party called 'labour of love'] where all rooms are open. The Kool Haus [capacity of 2000+], and the Guvernment Main Room [capacity of 1500], usually being reserved for headliners, while the drink, the orange room, and potentially skybar if it's summertime usually have breakz and jungle. Crowds can get a little sketchy/pushy/ generally not as cool sometimes, so personally, I tend to like to limit my time at this club. Oh yeah, lots of lasers and lights. Cover is usually between $15-25. Open from 10-10:30 to ~6:30-8:30

System Soundbar : www.systemsoundbar.com
The pre-boa, small, good Toronto venue. It used to be friday nights were progressive, saturday nights were house, but things have changed there recently, and I usually only go for the special events. [Lawler on the 19th of this month]. Cover can be free if you have guestlist and arrive before 11, to $25, based on which night it is. Opens usually the same time as the guvernment.

Republik Nightclub : www.republiknightclub.com
Hasn't opened yet, but is already causing quite a stir. Looks like the guvernment is gonna have some serious competition. Looks as tho they will be focusing on trance, but will also cater to the top-40, hip hop and r n' b crowds out there. Check out this website for sure, some very nice pics of the inside. A lot of people here are counting the hours till this place opens.

If you're still sketched out after a party and you know your body won't be able to sleep and still have energy, you can hit up both the comfort zone and film. The comfort zone being open all hours of the weekend, every weekend, with some filthy sounding music. But never go to either without a 'buddy', unless being among the nocturnal fiends dressed in leather straps grinding their....ugh, you get what I mean, while being high is your thing. Oh, and if you do go to the 'zone', laugh with the front door's bouncer when he makes fun of you. He's been there for years, and he's seen EVERYTHING, and he will make fun of you.

work
Don't know exactly what the work situation is here, but if you're like me, you'll worry about it when you get here due to necessity rather than try and grab something beforehand. Summer jobs are being filled right now, so now is probably the best time to look, however, it shouldn't be too bad finding one at any time of the year I wouldn't think.
boarding
Apartments and rooms are expensive in toronto. If you're looking for a room to stay at for a couple months, or even a couple weeks, the best bet would probably be subletting from a student who's going to one of the universities in the summer. A lot of them are just aching to rent out the space from may->sept, and you could probably get a good deal for a reasonable price if you're here within those months. If that doesn't work, check the TOTA board, people there will probably help you out, and maybe even put you up for a place to stay for a week or two if you need it.
other random thoughts
If you're in Toronto for any prolonged period of time, then it is a MUST, that you go visit montreal. If even just for a weekend, it's a great party town, that will probably destroy you, as well, it's a very nice, european style city, in North America. Plus, they have good smoked meat, and no one hassles you for tokin some reefer on the street. Summertime is very nice in Toronto, average temperature is about 25C, but given our location we get very humid, much like Florida. And since we had such a crappy summer last year, this year we're due. Another thing, since 80% of the canadian population lives withing 100km of the American Border, we have lots of open space to the north. And since we have an absurd amount of lakes it's given rise to what we like to call 'cottage country' where a lot of people own summer homes where they visit on weekends and such. It's a nice thing to do in the summertime, although the lake water will not be anywhere near the temperature you're probably used to. So if you're here and have the chance to go up and visit a cottage with someone who lives here I highly recomment it.
NuERA
Thats some pretty good info right there.

.. i cant wait for republik to open. j00f as a international resident. saweeeeeeet!!!!!
AnitA
LOL How could i forget good ol Comfort Zone....:whip: Like Sly_Guy said, the music is crazyyyyyy!! But word of advice: enter at own risk LOL You gotta see it to know what we're talking about. Like security said to me, what happens at the zone, stays at the zone .... And yes, the bouncer laughed at me too, especially when i showed him my Aussie id LOL

:D ;)
Fishaa
Awesome, thanks heaps for that!
