Its a UK and Ireland thing for the Patron Saints of each country...sort of like your July 4th in a way...celebrate your country and be patriotic...However, on St Patricks day you just seem to celebrate Irish Booze!
St. Patricks day = Ireland
St. Georges day = England
St. Andrews day = Scotland
St Sheep shaggers day = Wales (cant remember the proper name)

thats what i meant it was a holiday co-oped by america and turned into lepracon-drinking celebration (not that there's anything wrong with that). btw, was st pat the dude who got all the snakes out of ireland? |

yeah there are more stronger Irish communities on the East Coast (Boston, of course) but i'm sure all places will have their own celebrations. |
