im 5'11 and 180, dont know if that helps. This will be my first time touching a bike, so I didnt want to get to far over my head and kill myself. Want a bike that I can the summer and scenery with. Dont need a speed demon or anything too expensive. Somewhere around $3K.

I have a 2004 R6:

and couldn't be happier with it.

I'd recommend the Yamaha R6 or the Honda CBR600RR

both are great bikes and capable of performance far greater than pretty much anyone can achieve on them.

it definitely does come down to the question of why you're getting the bike. if it's for showing off or going fast in a straight line, then a Busa isn't that bad of an option. but if it's to become a good rider, start with a pure sportbike like those i mentioned above.

in the hands of a decent rider, the ninja 250 can do real well around a track. It corners decently with different tires on it. I would recommend the ninja 250 if you are looking for the starter bike because that will be fast enough to keep you happy for a while, but not too fast to get you in way over your head likea gixxer 6 or an R6 would do. Regardless of people saying they are good learner bikes, they have way to much power for someone with little - no prior experience.

Stick with the ninja for now.

well it really comes down to personal opinion now... go sit on some bikes... see which you like best... but i would stay away from the GSXR and R6... they are just to race oriented for someone who has never ridden before... the 250 ninja would be good for scoots around town and be a good commuter, but i dunno, i just wouldnt want to use it for much else... you could find a 92 CBR 600 or a 95 ZX6e probably in your price range which will have much more usable power, but not be too much to scare you off... that is what i learned on...

oh and TAKE A RIDING COURSE!!! that is some of the best advice you will get... before even buying a bike take the course... then you will see if its for you and learn some helpful info...

Hey guy Im in the same situation as you, 21, 6 feet tall, 150 lb, just WAITING for the summer to get that bike.

And Ive got my eye on the Kawasakis 250/500 after looking at all the options that are available. By the way here's an excellent website for that bike http://www.ninja250.info/.

Click on newbies at the top and theres a menu of common questions/answers on it that are really helpful.

Anyone that recommends any modern 600 SS bike as a good bike for a 22 year old that has no prior riding experience is a complete and utter moron. There is a world of difference between the 500 you're thinking about and the 600s that were bred for racing. No matter how good a rider you think you are, or how responsible a person you think you are, when you get on the seat of a 380lb bike with 110 HP, you lose an awful lot of good self-judgement. The 500 woulnd't be a bad starter, but if you're in no huge hurry, look around for an old (80s) 250, or 400 cruiser. You can buy it for hundreds, ride the piss out of it, and sell it for close to what you paid for it. Then move up to something like the 500. Don't let numbers fool you. I've seen excellent riders on 250s destroy ty riders on 600Rs on the track. Riding a motorcycle well is one thing where rider skill means more than the bike itself.

IF you're in this for looks only then don't buy a bike please. We have too many squids on $10,000 bikes now that have no clue how to ride at all, let alone safely. They only give sportbike riders a worse name for ourselves then we have now.

That said I've been riding dirtbike since I was 10. I Currently own a TT600 that I (tily) race on/off depending on my money situation.

A 600R IS NEVER A GOOD CHOICE FOR A FIRST BIKE.

Ive owned 7 bikes in my time & never went above a 600cc. Go with a cheaper 600cc bike thats like from the late 90's. But not an R6. Either a ZX6E or R, FZR600, YZF600, GSX-R600, CBR600F2, F3, or a 2000 F4. Since this is your first bike you dont need anything extremly fast & all bikes are fast anyways. Get something cheaper rather then going out & spending $8-11k on a new one. Plus if you go used you dont get any frieght & set up fee's. This first bike will help you decide your likes & dislikes in motorcycles. Since your new to bikes you dont even know what your likes & dislikes are yet. Also when it comes to picking up girls on your bike. Girls dont care if the bikes a Hayabusa or a 95 ZX-7. They just want a ride. ;)

I plan on getting the 2005 Triumph Sprint S/T. its 1005 CC three cylinder :D triple integrated pipes...*drooooool*

gorgeous new blue. Their website isnt updated but my dealer was at the english unveiling of it and took pics...omg so awesome!

also a bike im considering though is the kawasaki zx6 with slipper clutch :D

More important than your bike is your gear. Dont be a ****** and get cheap gear. You need to spend like 2 grand on gear. Just a warning though.... Suzukis have bad street rep. Mostly idiots who dont know about motorcycles ride them.

edit: Also take the motorcycle courses that someone suggested. THEN GET THE BIKE YOU WANT. course familiarizes you and only dumbs hurt themselves by wheelying down main street when they have their bikes.

Get what you want, learn its potential slowly, and have fun. NO REASON to sit there wishing you had another bike. Whats the ing point.
