Has anybody gotten their hands dirty with Reason 3.0 yet? I was curious as to people's feedback on the new features especially on the MClass suite.
Thanks |

my words to new Reason though I got hands on beta only...
the new MClass mastering suite has quite solid and nice sound...but hey ... waves plugins do their job gazillion times better... :-/
I don't see the combinator as such a big improvement...don't know why did we have to wait for such a cosmetic change so long :-/
that's pretty much all of my thoughts... |

I wish they would offer cheaper upgrade prices for 2.5 users!

Well, the MClass stuff pwnz Two band parametric EQ back to the stoneage, of course. We actually get to see the frequency and gain now, lol!
Still there are much better VST stuff, but whatever. For people just working within reason it's a HUGE improvement, for people rewireing and stuff the difference is not that big. I was planning on semi-convering from Reason in a while but this will probably make me stay longer :) |

This goes for everyone who thinks the same as this quote.
if you couldn't produce with Reason 2.5, you wont be able to do it in 3.0 .
Why? mastering and layering few synths won't make productions sound 1000 better. |

It's not about not being able to, it's about it being annoying and taking much more work than necessary to have to use 3 EQ-units and stuff for every synth and besides, having a rack that is 1000 metres high simply isn't very fun.
The MClass units aren't only for mastering btw, I don't think I'll use the standard compressor or EQ anymore.
And for your information, I just took a tune I did recently and just put all the MClass units on and tweaked the knobs kinda random. And guess what, it did sound a lot better (although still like )! lol
When I said huge improvement I mainly ment workflow wise.
The fact that I can't produce is completely irrelevant btw :) |

Thanks for the feedback on 3.0. There's no doubt that the standard EQ and compressor units needed either an improvement or an alternative. Especially the standard compressor unit. At least from what you guys are saying we do get an improved alternative with the MClass.
$129 USD for the upgrade seems a bit steep for what we are getting in return. I'll probably still upgrade, but I'm still let down that they refuse to support hardware synths. I guess they don't want to ruin the ReWire deal they have with software developers. As soon as I order my synths, I am probably going to have to cave in and purchase Cubase. |

there already was an alternate compressor, on the scream pedal. "tape" is a compressor...kinda sucked, but was better than the other compressor in 2.5
anybody have any ideas/thoughts on the new compressor, i just got 3.0 today, havn't had much of a chance to try it out... |

Can't believe noone's mentioned the imrovement of workflow by using the combinator. Not only that, but you can now save a custom made synth with eq/delay/reverb etc. as a combinator patch and load it in any track you want. |

The propheads strategy for Reason really got me confused. Sure the combinator makes great sense. But Mastering this and Mastering that? Who on earth is going to master in Reason? So they provided mastering class tools, but still can't manage a track eq with a high-pass filter!
Reason needs to decide what it is. A synth workstation (Great) or a competitor to Logic, Cubase etc (Road to ruin). |

they have decided what reason is... its a very simple, smart yet stupid program.
stupid because propellerheads just refuse to add some standard things like audio tracks, better devices and afcourse a decent piano roll.
smart cuz of the fact that there are only a few devices + alot of ways to connect them and do some cool things with the wires. knowing how to use 1 device is better than having 10 and working with presets. its limmited tho.
anyways i havent used reason 2,5 but im sure there are lots of things missing.. mc class fxs are a must even tho they could be better and the combi is a cool device to have too. |

I personally won't call it Reason 3, I call it 2.6. There's not enough to justify it as a whole new version imho. While the combinator and mclass is a great addition, there's virtually bugger all else to drool over.
Had propellerheads included midi OUT, support for third party synths or plugins or even a more warmer sound engine, I might have bought it. Don't have the cash to throw at it yet... |
