Cricket - India vs Pakistan ..A rivalry continues

Hey Guys...
not sure how many here watch or follow the game. As a Pakistani supporter, I must mention that its a pleasure to see one of the greatest sporting rivalries ever resume on the subcontinent again.
The first test just ended and while India dominated for 4 days...the pakistani's showed tremendous courage and depth...and could it be a new found mental resolve...to grind out a draw in Mohali, India.
I for one was very impressed by the generous nature of the Indian crowd. For too long have we let a bitter political rivalry run the way our sporting minds think. Last years series in Pakistan was the beginning...here we have continued exactly where the 3rd test in pakistan left off. Congratulations to both teams and both sets of fans for showing that this game goes beyond minor political issues.

Feel free to comment on the series in this thread.

Roomate is pakistani and its like living with a nut since this has started.

I hate it I think its the most boring sport/ out in the world but thats because I never grew up around it and dont understand it, since watching it I still think its boring and but it has its times, that west indies guy knocks the out of that ball or whatever its called.

Haven't lost a test series in a long time. They just beat the second best One day team (NZ) in New Zealand 5-0. Absolute arse whooping.

Bring on the ing ashes :D

you'll meet Pietersen for the first time, flintoff who's never played a test against you, Strauss who's classy and Our great wicket keeper who was born in papau new guinea :p

as for this series, I want India to win, theres a lot of trouble here whenever pakistan play with their fans invading the pitch, usually before the games are over

I've been keeping an eye on you Poms recently in anticipation for the Ashes.
This is your best chance to win them in the last 15 years.

But don't forget, and this has been the pattern over the last few series, the English play well against everyone except the Aussies.

razmataz:
NZ are the number 2 rated One Day team at the moment. In fact, if Australia lost to NZ in that series, and then lost the majority of their one day games against England, it would have been NZ facing up against the World XI in the one dayers later this year.

There you go, they have actually dropped down to number 3 (from the ICC website)

This is what excites me however, we are as close to you in the rankings as we ever have been in the time i've been following cricket (the last 10 years or so) and we have beaten some of the best teams around, inc just south africa, who only you beat in their own backyard. We have some great bowlers & talented batsmen and finally on the whole our best players are being picked (Although i still want to see Ian Bell in for Rob Key) and Vaughan has created a bunch of people who want to play for each other. What it means is that fingers crossed, this could be the closest & best ashes series in a long long time, for the last 10 years i've only wanted us to be able to compete with you some more, and finally we are getting close to the level where I think we can do that :)

No arguments from me that this is the best chance the Poms have to win the Ashes, I really like the look of the team, a lot of new guys who haven't played against Australia before.
I think thats really important, these new guys seem confident and haven't been scarred by being killed by Australia before. In last few series they've been fielding a pretty similar team and the playes just seemed intimidated and dwelling on past defeats.
I really like the look of Strauss, he finally looks like the rock batsman you guys have needed to complement Vaughan. And even though Harmison and Jones sounds like a department store, I would rate your fast bowlers as one of the best attacks in the world.

Having said that, Australia to win and pretty easily. Is England still staging it as a 5 test series or have they dropped it back to 4? Anyway, if its 4, the score will be 3-0, if its 5, the score will be 3-1.

As for this series India vs Pakistan, I really hope India win. i really don't like Pakistan, I think they are dirty playersand bad sportsmen who mope around and don't have the spirit of the game. Having a captain like Inzamam just shows how bad their mindset is, if they want to get serious about winning they need to replace him as captain. It was plainly obvious in their recent tour here, on field he was a bad influence on the players, they had very slow over rates, sloppyness in the field, very little talk amongst the players, he wasn't encouraging the players but rather chastising them for something he could do no better at. As soon as he went off (mainly cos he's a fat potato), they players perked up, better performances, the chat picked up and the over rate increased - that was actually proven with numbers.
He is not a good example on the field. I think they might need to implement a similar system to Australia, where even though they have a captain, on field it is much more of a forum of senior players such as Ponting, Gilchrist, Lehmann (valued by Ponting for his captaincy experience) and Warne. Get rid of Inzy as captain, but still have the captain turn to him for advice.

those ratings are flawed i believe...its very difficult to have a proper rating system in the way the ICC runs its schedule now...

granted Australia is #1 and deservedly so.
Sri Lanka, India, Nzl, England, Pakistan and SAfrica are all about even and would give each other great competition. Nzl & SAfrica being at the lower end of that list.

India @ #2 would be a sure thing a year ago...but theyve got something to prove.
The pakistanis are rather under manned but as every team (but the aussies) have come to find out recently, they are NOT to be underrated.
SriLanka is the dark horse out of the bunch.
