Buy some Grado SR-80s or SR-125s, and you won't need an amp.

its not the headphones, man, its the receiver that isnt putting out enough power. i hate it when they put reducers on the headphone jack :(

I got some Bose QC2s and the first time I was using them on a personal audio as opposed to aircraft systems I was wondering why the hell everything was so quiet....dip here forgot to flick the switch on the hidden headphone jack

Get headphones that are easy to drive. My pair of cans are the Grado SR-225s & they have a normal impedance of 32 ohms. This means it can be plugged straight into the back of the computer or portable playing device & have loud sound (maybe not so much with the portable playing device but it will still work). Say for example you buy Sennheisers HD-580 cans: they have a normal impedance of 300 ohms. These wont run to well without the amp (& wont work at all with the portable playing devices). Best to check what impedance your headphones have first.

If i were to buy an amp Id go for a duel output amp for 2 headphones at a time. (My personal prefenence as I produce music & have other people occasionally use my other headphone set.) If you just want 'One' headphone amp then the Shure FP-22 Stereo is your best bet.

If you go the low impedance headphone option I recommend the Grado SR225s. These are freaken awesome cans for music lovers. They are hi-end cans with amazing bass & freakingly clear sound.
