Fair price for vocals?

I have about twenty words I need sung, and a bunch of ethnic gobledeegook to be "lala hum hum"ed.
My question is, for a pro vocalist, how much should I expect to shell out?
Chances are I'm not releasing a CD for another few months and the song would probly hit Napster, iTunes etc. a couple months from now, so I'm thinking a lump sum would be the way to go, at least until the track makes some money (I'm expecting it to at least, as I do have a small following... plus it rocks ;) ). |

Chill, Project5 "Guru". Small is a pretty modest word, and I never said I expect the tune to even pay for the vocals.
[edit]
I used to know some really talented singers at my old highschool. Of course they're all gone by now, but I'm sure I could find a diamond in the rough.
What do you think of a small contest? Submit tapes. Winner gets $100 and a portfolio piece. I know the principal enough... I bet he'd be into it.
Cheap singer, and a bit of advertisement all in one.
$100 fair for a highschool student? |

| Maybe if you call a local radio station, they can ask callers to call you. I'm sure you can find talent that'll do it for free or a radio station t-shirt. :/ |

There are absolutely no electronic radio stations around here. I know you didn't specify, but it would be out of place imo.
What would a fair price be though, considering the circumstance? I can find vocalists, I just don't know how much I should pay one. |

Maybe some of them will have going rates, and you can then see if they sound outrageous or fit your needs or better than fit your needs.
How about asking a vocalist? (one you aren't using for this job... just any vocalist). |

Simple is always the answer, isn't it?
Yah, I'll do that. |

| I would say price should be based on talent. |

| I agree with ZzZ The Goddess and I think it should also depend on what you can make of it. |

Most vocal trance songs didnt even come as electronic. Its been remixed that way. (ie. Starecase - Faith... sounds like a country song until Loafer remixed it) |

It's more house than trance... and it's not that vocal at all. It's about two phrases and a bunch of wailing.
i agree price should be based on talent. But how about my highschool idea? Do the chances of getting a good singer warrent a $100 dollar prize? Even for that small ammount of vocals I need? (Now these are Canadian dollars... that would equal about $80-85 US.
I still need to book studio time for that (but I got an in, so I get good rates ;) ). |

Sorry, I hate to bump, but I found my vocalist.
She's a senior in highschool who's been singing for 16 years, and has no commercial experience, as far as I know.
My question is now, how are vocalists paid? Is it a percentage of the songs earnings? What kind of percentage, if so?
Anyone hired a vocalist lately? |
