FL users...Serious problem meaning i can't produce in peace

For some reason, i'll be in the middle of making a song, and one of 2 things will happen. My computer will restart, or my monitor will just go black however the green light will stay on, but theres no way i can turn it back on.

Theres no telling after how long it will be before this happens it could be 20 mins or it could be 2 hours. I know its not overheating, and its only when Fruity Loops is running.

Has anyone here experienced this, if so whats causing it?

Thanks in advance

I/o conflict I'll bet.

Try removing and reinstalling your soundcard and videocard in different slots.

Try closing every single program open except for explorer and FL.

Have you read the FL FAQs yet?
Tech0rz
well my soundcard is a sh1tty built in one. Best i can do is reinstall the drivers. Is there any other way than messing around with the hardware?

I'll have a read of the FAQ now.
djglacial
Yah.

First check some FL forums before you rip your comp apart.

If you can't find anything, take out all the HW you can, and reinstall them one by one, playing around in FL until you're satisfied it's not the thing you just installed.

For everything that's built-in (excluding the video card, but including the sound card, if Fruity will let you...which I doubt) you'll need to disable it in control panel. I forgot how to do it in XP, so someone else will have to help you there, but if you got an old OS, its in control panel>system>device manager.

But use your noggin... dont go disabling part of your motherboard and stuff.

You have to be thorough if you do this... I once had my mouse messing with my soundcard, no kidding. I had to switch from USB to PS/2.

Good luck.

wait a minute... there is no FAQ with FL. Which one are u reffering 2?

Remember to check forums, but I think it's a conflict of somesort.

nah i dont wanna mess with any hardware just yet, unless no one else has any suggestions like if its actually happened to them.

But i can't take my sound card out, and the only other thing i could take out, would be my Video Card (Radeon 9800 Pro) and i'm pretty sure that wouldn't solved anything. I'm running XP Pro if that helps.

btw i like the design of your site DjGlacial nicely done. I'm into web design myself, take a look at my most recent design Here. Still got work to do on the design and the coding, but u get the idea.
djglacial
Nice site man.

Mine's due for an overhaul pretty soon. Needs to allow for news etc.

As for your problem, if you don't want to rip stuff out, go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager and start disabling stuff that won't cripple your computer instead.

If your control panel ain't in classic mode, make a shortcut to "devmgmt.msc" or put it in the run dialogue.

i was just wondering what determines the comment under your name? i mean what decides when you are promoted from a Junior Trance Addict to a Trance Addict, i presume its number of posts isn't it?
iammesol
yup :)

It could possible be your Powersupply. You may look into that, how big and what brand do you have?
Tech0rz
I'm pretty sure its not my powersupply. I upgraded to a Mercury, 450W not long ago.
