I just watched the two trailers on ign
dont get me wrong i ing love the zelda series but there were just so many rip offs of LOTR in the trailers I saw.
Blatant.
The have war warg riders in horse chases (lotr 2)
Huge spider chasing link through a cavern (lotr 3)
link fighting balrog(without wings)in underground cavern(lotr1)
Kinda
ghost soldiers (lotr3)
link getting chased on his horse towards a castle with nazgul looking things flying after him (lotr3)
not that this will stop me from buying the game because i love LOTRs too but I just think its kinda lame |

1) Did you ever stop and wonder whether LOTR was actually based off of other old sci-fi stories? Well it is so PLEASE don't go into the "OH EM GEE ZELDA IS SUUUUUUUCH A RIP OFF OF LOTR".
2) There's already a topic about Zelda about 7 or 8 topics down.

Actually Lord of the Rings is based on Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. Made famous by the helicopter gunship theme music in the Apocalypse Now movie. (CLICK FOR SYNOPSIS) |

I love how you're so sure of yourself. I didn't think it'd come to this but... now is the time to use my Zelda no Densetsu knowledge to show you just how wrong you are.
"Huge spider chasing link through a cavern (lotr 3)"
That would be a Gohma. Gohma has been in the Zelda series since the first game which was released 1987.
"The have war warg riders in horse chases (lotr 2)"
Hogs have been in the Zelda series since Zelda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Tri-force. Ganon, the Dark World's version of Ganondorf, was a huge hog. Ever since, hogs have been pretty evil creatures and quite higher-up for Ganon. This was in 1991.
"link fighting balrog(without wings)in underground cavern(lotr1)"
At no point does he fight a balrog. He fights something called "Lizalfos". They first appeared in Zelda no Densetsu: Ocarina of Time (Zelda 64) - That was 1998.
"ghost soldiers (lotr3)"
ZnD has had it's share of ghosts and stuff (poes and the undead) but I've yet to see something like this. Then again, I've seen "ghost armies" in movies that have been released long before LotR.
"link getting chased on his horse towards a castle with nazgul looking things flying after him (lotr3)"
So far keese and owls were used in the ZnD series but I have yet to know what these creatures are. Once more, there are a ton of movies before LotR that had random dragon-looking bird things.
By the way, I've seen the movies so I know what you're talking about for the most part. |

OH MY GOSH!
You're totally right. How can I be so wrong?

after watching one of the trailers (are there more?) and being both an avid zelda fan ever since the first one for NES, and also a fan of tolkein's books, and to some extent the recent movies, i'm definately siding with yan on this one
just because one trilogy encompasses all the cliches of fantasy novels and movies into one big collection and still is ridiculously popular, doesn't mean that the cliches originated in those movies
omigod, a group of bad guys chasing the good guy as he's almost to safety, thats nevar happened before !!!!1!111
and something chasing the good guy down a path where the evil thing's so big he can't turn back! well i say that the lord of the rings is ripping off indiana jones then :p
god...all of these things have been done before
its just combining them in new ways
ever stop to think the lord of the rings cinematographers 'borrowed' a few ideas? |

Yan +1
I have been following Zelda since the SNES days. The new game does closely resemble LotR scenes, however, those characters have all been in the Zelda series way before LotR was put onto the silver screen.
Just my 2 cents :toothless |

| while the characters maybe zelda originals theres no denying that the scenes are rips of LOTR scenes. |
