Just wondering if I put a fog machine in a hotel room, if the smoke detector would go off...anyone know?
BeatFreak
no, it doesn't. we had one at an old college apartment. cigarettes don't either.

it will prob set of a smoke detector, but it wouldnt a heat detector
plus hotels have really strict fire protection guidlines with really sensitive systems

i dont know this for sure, but i'm thinking carbon monoxide is what sets off smoke detectors, so probably not

No, you would be thinking of a carbon monoxide detector.

i'm not. i have both.
smoke isn't just smoke, though. fog isn't.....
i'll have to find out what actually sets them off, but i know what i'm thinking of.

hahaha that reminds me of a funny story...recently i was very ill and bedridden w/ a stomach virus and a nasty cold and i had a fever so i was freezing all the time...we were having a coldfront at the time too, so i had the heater on 24-7. i sent my bf to the store to get some stuff for me during the day and as i was laying in bed i smelled something burning...i figured it was the heater though. all of a sudden the smoke detector went off and the alarm was going off in our whole apt. building, i was mortified! i was like Oh ! i called up my bf and was like, "oh my god i just set off the fire alarm what do i do?" i guess if one alarm goes off in one apt. the whole building goes off and the fire department comes. so all the fire trucks pull up and i'm outside with my dog and everyone else in the building was outside...so i just thought, "oh screw it jamie, just admit it was you right off the bat and get it over with" so that's what i did, but it ended up being another apt. some kids were playing around and set it off. hahahaha so funny.

maybe

it depends on the fog and machine you are using, and the detector.

I was a mobile DJ for a few years, and in some schools the fogger sets it off, others it doesnt. Most often not tho.

I would think you should be safe.(and for whoever asked, its water and alcohol superheated)
