got a problem with ripping...

hey guys, this is strange...I'm not new to ripping, but encountered a problem that I can't figure out:
I was ripping some records with my technics with Concorde NightClub E, Terratec DMX and Wavelab...everything's fine. But when I checked the last track I recorded there was quite some noticable noise, especially in the softer parts. Like a hiss or little distortion. It's not the needle cause when I listen to the PFL it is fine. I then tried lowering the rec level, first a little, then a LOT cause I thought it was clipping, but that's not it. This sux!:(
any suggestions??

PS: all this is at .wav stage of ripping, not .mp3

To get as little noise as possible when recording, mute as many things you don't need as you can in windows mixer (wave, cd-player, midi, i dunno what more) also set recording level as high as you can WITHOUT letting it clip/distort. After recording, if there's still too much noise, noise reduction.

thanks for your thoughts. I already do all of what you mentioned. It's hard to describe the noise I'm getting, nothing that NR would get rid of. It only happens with one track! It sounds fine when listening to it "live", but the .wav sounds like a 64 kbps MP3.
Maybe I'll make samples later...

Check the connectors, and make sure you're recording in 44100 hz 16-bit stereo

well, thanks again. But as I said I'm not NEW to ripping tracks...I kind of know my equipment and as I said as soon as I use a different record everything is fine...this is f**kin weird!
