OTTAWA, March 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A global anti-counterfeit group has claimed that Canadian market is a home to fake designer clothes, counterfeit software and countless other fraudulent goods,it is reported here Wednesday.

In a report to the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) estimates that "20 percent of the Canadian market is now pirate product," and accuses Canada of doing little to stop the illegal industry.

The USTR already put Canada on its Special 301 Watch List in 2003, a list identifying countries deemed by the United States as failing to provide adequate protection or enforcement of intellectual property rights.

But the IACC is pushing the agency to go even further. It wantsthe trade office to raise Canada to its Priority Watch List, and actively engage the Canadian Government to prompt a more proactiveapproach to combat piracy and counterfeiting.

Well it seems like the amount of counterfit bills are out of hand. Every fast food joint i go to seems to have a few fake 10's or 20's taped to the wall behind the cash register...

I dont think they are talking about kiddies printing up fake money

they mean the MASSIVE industry of knockoff/counterfeit goods, which is a huge industry.

I was just joking actually :p...you know, like they blame today's "generation" for everything :) :p

It's still somewhat legal to DL MP3s here ;)

Hmm, well Pacific Mall DOES sell those games at really cheap prices ;)
I don't know where exactly they get the 20% measure. Outside of software and some clothing places, I haven't seen too much counterfeit stuff floating around. Stuff that falls off trucks are another story altogether :D

think of the stats: how many knock off purses are sold per legit one?
20:1? 50:1? half the high school girls have fakes, while very few mature women dish out the cash for a real one.

and new illegitimate jobs being created in return... big deal, it all evens out in the end. imagine the amount of jobs in police and gov't investigation departments being created just because of these people! :D

and when u say legitimate jobs lost... is your job in jeopardy? job of anyone else you know? no? that's what i thought... who cares then!

legit jobs arent being created by counterfeit goods.
well..maybe the store workers here, but yea...no.
