Air India Verdict: Not guilty

Well it seems that a lot of people are calling for a 'public inquiry' into why these two men were aquited.

Is it just me, or is this unecessary? I understand that people lost relatives/loved ones, but is an inquiry really gonna make a diff? we have already spent 20 years and $100 million.

People are calling the verdict unfair. What a load of BS. so from now on, when a verdict is read, which you dont agree with, its unfair?

i thought people in this country were innocent untill proven guilty? The men went through the trail, were in jail since 2000, and have been found not guilty. I would call that fair.

i would just like to say, i truly do feel sorry for the families involved, and i want to pay my respects. But please do not trample our legal system, because you disagree with the verdict.

All along I was under the impression this was a FOR SURE case...Someone even said they practically admitted to it...there was lots of evidence and such...

don't worry about it.

in terms of this case. why did they even try these guys when they didn't have enough evidence? that is pretty crazy if you ask me.

the media passed it off as if it's a done deal all the time...which is why i'm confused as to how that happened

well i think that was one of the problems. The victim's families, had 2 faces to hold accountable for the bombing. Now those two have been found not guilty, but people are still going to condem the accused, because those are the only faces they can tie to the crime.

they may not be guilty, but that doesnt matter because somebody needs to be blamed.

the fact is, we cannot and will not find the solution or answer to all of lifes problems. We have a legal system(the best one humans have thought of), and we have to try and live with it.

Just because somebody was found guilty, doesnt mean they are. And just because somebody was found not guilty, doesnt meant hey are.

We cannot hold people accountable based on feelings, we need to base it on facts. And in this case, the facts did not add up. People need to accept that.

Prosecutors seldom ever have a closed case. Evidence is gathered, then when they think they have enough for a conviction, they go to trial. I read the papers this morning and some of the comments were prety stupid. Granted, lives were lost and families torn apart, and those responsible deserve to burn in hell. However, airplane crashes seldom reveal anything but circumstantial evidence. Also, there was a lot of BS going to the justice system, but not in terms of the courts. There was a fallout between the RCMP and the Canadian secret service on this crap. The CSIS had hundreds of tapes that potentially could have closed this case and put these guys in jail, tapes that were destroyed without the RCMP's knowledge, because there was a risk of exposing CSIS personell who were undercover. This is known, and in retrospect, it makes you wonder what other evidence could have been witheld. The people had a right to be angry. This is NOT justice. I don't mean to imply that they are guilty, but they sure as hell aren't innoccent either. I don't think that the inquiry will accomplish anything, as whatever evidence was destroyed/witheld probably won't surface now anyways. There are just too many missing links in the case for a conclusive judgement to be made. Thus "innocent until proven guilty" prevailed, and they're free, rightfully so or not.
On the note of bashing the justice system, there are much more direct examples of it's inadequacies right here in our city. Just look at the structure of crime and applicable punishment when it comes to drugs, assault, and other that happens everyday.

I think they want an inquiry as to how the RCMP and CSIS bungled what should have been a clear case. Apparently a lot of evidence went missing and there was quite a bit of infighting and rivalry between the two agencies that ended up in quite a bit of icompetence.

I think it's the agencies' handling of the case that is what people want to be investigated.
