Recently, I've canned Sympatico ... which I was with them for 2 years. Now I'm sharing it with the guy who is renting my basement and we are using a D LINK router.
I'm getting kicked off none stop. That's why you see me login and log off on MSN and ICQ for the past week!!! At least every 5 mins this happens. When I download, the downloads stops when I get kicked off. Right before I get kicked off, it says "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION UNPLUGGED" and then it says "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION CONNECTED"
I've already updated the firmware and reseted the router.
Do you guys have any clue how to solve this? It's getting really annoying. |

need more info.. how is your computer set up?
static, dhcp? how is the working computer set up?
what model #, etc.
maybe dumb, but did you make sure the network cable can't/isn't coming loose (at either end) |

I think there is a "refresh time" option on the router settings somewhere? try that...
otherwise... try a different router, maybe it's gone baaaaad. try to isolate the problem... |

He's the one with the router and no idea wbout his setup.
It's a D Link 624 ver C router. |

Are you connected to the router via CAT5 or WiFi?
I'd say if both of you are having issues, it's probably the router. However if you're connecting via WiFi, that opens up a whole lot of other possibilities.
If you are using wireless, are you connecting using 802.11b/g/speedbooster? |

hey john i had the same problem till last month on my router with sympatico. i think its because of PPPOE, it has to dial when the connection drops. But i switched to cable none of those problems anymore. |

The PPPoE session has to do with the WAN side of the router. He is having issues with the LAN/WiFi side of things as his Windowz bawx is reporting link-state changes. |

hey john the answer is obvious........ its one of 3 things
1. bad cable.... (considering its both of you , probley the cable between the modem and the router)
2. "Keep Alive" make sure you have this option checked (check dlinks website or documentation for more info)
3. Your Dlink Router is a piece of , buy a new one.\\
if this doesent work or you dont feel like buying a new router, harrass the isp for more help. |
