in the recent rush of all this ncaa tournament talk and everything, i just compiled this through searching the net, and reading ....
=============================================================
shawn kemp -- (Concord High School in Elkhart, Indiana, Trinity Valley Community College in Texas; brief stint at University of Kentucky) -- 1988-89
kevin garnett -- Mauldin, SC(Mauldin High School, Farragut Academy, Chicago) -- 1995
jermaine o'neal -- Columbia, SC() -- 1996
kobe bryant -- Philadelphia, PA(Lower Marion HS, ) -- 1996
rashard lewis -- Pineville, LA (Alief - Elsik High School, Alief, Tex) -- 1998 (NOTE : possibly could have went to University of Houston)
tracy mcgrady -- Bartow, FL -- Mount Zion Christian Academy (N.C.) (if my mathematics are correct, then he may have ran into amare stoudemire at mount zion when tracy was leading the team, and amare was a lost freshman traveller looking for guidance) -- 1997
amare stoudemire -- Lake Wales, FL ( Lake Wales High School
(Fla.), Mount Zion Christian Academy (N.C.), Emmanuel Christian Academy (N.C.),
Dr. Phillips High School (Fla.), West Orange High School (Fla.) before he finished at
Cypress Creek "If he did not enter the NBA Draft he was committed to attending the University of Memphis." ) -- 2000
kwame brown -- (notable, since he was a top 5 pick) .. Glynn Academy High School -- Charleston, SC -- 2001 .. did commit to Florida Gators, but then said nevermind, and went for the draft ..
lebron james -- Akron, OH -- St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH) -- 2003
j.r. smith -- (i noted this guy, because he is with the new orleans hornets, and is getting plenty of playing time now, which is rare with rookie players coming out of high school) .. Freehold, NJ -- t. Benedict's Prep (Newark, NJ) -- 2004 .. notable :: was about to commit to North Carolina Tar Heels ..
al harrington -- ( St. Patrick's HS (NJ)) Orange, NJ -- 1998 (NOTE : Seton Hall, Georgia Tech, St. John's, Ohio State, and N.C. State were possible schools )
tyson chandler -- Hanford, CA -- 2001 -- Dominguez HS (CA) (NOTE : was close to signing with UCLA )
eddy curry -- Harvey, IL -- 2001 -- Thornwood HS (IL) ( NOTE : was close to signing with Depaul )
===============================================================
here are some teams that could have happened :
north carolina (2005) : jr smith, sean may, rashand mccants, and co. (:wtf: i say .. if smith is with the tar heels right now, nc would be an automatic lock for the championship, and no word about illinois)
memphis (2002) : amare stoudamire and dajuan wagner
ucla (2001) : baron davis and tyson chandler
depaul (2002) : quentin richardson and eddy curry
kentucky (1990) : shawn kemp and jamal mashburn (think about that) .. could have beaten duke back then ...
florida (2001) : mike miller and kwame brown and udonis haslem
and think about this .. since kevin garnett and jermaine oneal are both from south carolina, they both possibly could have went to the same college, or opposing colleges .. if they were both on the same team (let's say south carolina university) .. they could have torn up the competition in the sec ..
and tracey mcgrady and amare stoudamire are both from florida .. what if they both went to the same college in florida ... ???
something to think about .. if these guys went to college, the current shape of the ncaa tournament would be way different now, and the college rules could have changed, because of their dominance ...

Tyson Chandler and Kwame Brown could have really used the college seasoning,I know coach K. is still bent about Shaun Livingston dropping his letter of intent and going straight to the pros.
You forgot to mention Deshawn Stevenson and his rather forgettable jump to the jazz from high school and the immortal Korleone Young who i don't believe ever made it through one year in the nba.I still believe they sould have a age cap for the nba ,i believe David Stern is pushing for 2 years removed from high school. |

| I wish college basketball was like football in taht you have to finish college in order to be eligible. People may say there would be no lebron james but he would still be there, just four years later and with such mature talent in the NBA due to having 4 year players the nba talent level would be on a much higher level, not needing necessarily a man like lebron james to put more hype into the league. |

how about this ...
lebron james (being from ohio) goes to ohio state, and leads the buckeyes to the ncaa championship, and he gets voted most valuable player as a freshman ...
then everyone starts comparing him to the hype maurice clarett had when osu won the national championship when he was a rookie ..
then the scandals start developing with lebron james and the ohio state basketball league about payments and bets and everything ...
the what ifs .. :wtf: ..
shaun livingston would have did all right currently with reddick and ewing ... i skipped deshaun stevenson, because he will never make a name for himself .. currently in orlando, however, not doing much .. |

I believe Kobe Bryant was good friends with Rip Hamilton in high school (they went to rival schools in Pa. or something or other), and had said once he wanted to play with Rip in college...
If he had, and Ray Allen had stayed for his fourth year of eligibility... UCONN would have had: Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Khalid El-Amin, and Emeka Okafor (freshman).
Considering they won the national championship without Ray and Kobe... that team would have been wicked. |

| i know Dorrell Wright skipped college and is with the Heat. the only reason i know is because he was supposed to go to my Alma Mater. its his rookie year so i dont know how hes going to pan out. |

:wtf: :wtf: :nervous: ..
a starting 5 that i definately do not want to mess with .. i thought duke (hurley, hill, laettner) was scary, and michigan (rose, webber, howard, and co.) was scary .... |

yeah man I think about this topic all the time
jonze ive been hearing some good stuff about Wright,obviously he wont be getting any playing time here anytime soon but they like his upside.
All these schools can only wish all these guys woudve gone to their schools lol.I mean thats what college sports is about to them, they make money off the players and they expect the players to hold off on big NBA money and expect them to go to school for 3 to 4 years?haha not gonna happen.If I had talent like KG when I was 18 and I was poor, there is no way in hell they are gonna deny me from pursuing my dream, for what? so the schools can get rich off me?I could always go to school later.But you have to make sure your really good to make that risk of course.
Leopold what about north carolina, can u imagine their teams , imagine how stacked theyve woudve been since the mid 90s |

What we really need is a thread about all the College standouts that did all in the NBA now that would go on for 300+ pages.
Manning, Laetneer(sp its late), El-Amin, Donyel & Donny Marshall from 90's UCONN fame, Jalen Rose(sorry he has been a bust whats he on his 20th NBA team)and more and more |

Jalen Rose a bust? There are far more I could name who have had a much tier career than Rose. He's been with 4 teams and averages about 15 points a game for his career. That's hardly a bust, especially when he was only the third best player on his team in college. |

yea we were all happy when he said he was going to come here and then the next thing you know he's talking about the NBA and that was the last time we heard anything about him. i havent had a chance to see him on the court at all in miami. maybe they'll give him some minutes down the stretch to rest up some guys for the playoff run. |
