Lucid Dreaming and Your Last Dream

I am starting to learn to lucid dream. I think its really interesting what can be done in that state, and am curious to see if theres anyone else out there who lucid dreams.
On the topic of dreams, if you haven't seen Waking Life go see it. There's an interesting topic covered in the movie, here's a part of the script that gets at this topic...
Ethan: I keep thinking about something you said.
Julie: Something I said?
Ethan: Yeah. About how you often feel like you're observing your life from the perspective of an old woman about to die. You remember that?
Julie: Yeah. I still feel that way sometimes; like I'm looking back on my life. Like my waking life is her memories.
Ethan: Mmm, exactly. I heard that Tim Leary said, as he was dying, that he was looking forward to the moment when his body was dead, but his brain was still alive - you know how they say that there's still 6-12 minutes of brain activity after everything else has shut down?
Julie: Mmm.
Ethan: And a second of dream consciousness, right? Well that's infinitely longer than a waking second. You know what I'm saying?
Julie: Oh yeah yeah yeah, definitely. For instance I wake up and it's 10:12 and then I go back to sleep and I have those long, intricate, beautiful dreams that seem to last for hours and then I wake up and it's...10:13
Ethan: Yeah, exactly. So then 6-12 minutes, right? Of brain activity. I mean...that could be your whole life. I mean you are that woman looking back over everything.
Julie: Okay so what if I am? Then what would you be in all that?
Ethan: Whatever I am right now. I mean, yeah maybe I only exist in your mind, but I'm still just as real as anything else. |

Same here.
Here, read my dream that happened to me while i was just sitting down. I dont remember falling asleep, but i felt like i was there, if you got some time on your hands:
It was around 12 am in the night. There was a man outside standing on my driveway. One of those yellow/orange streetlights was one him.
He had a leather jacket and was trying to hide some kind of black sub machine gun with the jacket, but i saw it.
I was watching him from the second story window. He was looking around for a while, and started to check out my front door and entrance from a distance.
Then he went out of view, and a van quickly pulls up. A couple of guys come out with sub machine guns.
I just remembered that somebody else was downstairs.
The person downstairs couldn't hear much, so she wouldnt have known of their entry.
I heard the door being broke into. There were screaming noises downstairs. This is when i grabbed a sword and was positioned beside the doorway entry so that when he could come in, i could take off his head.
But he never came. I looked out the window, and saw another van pull by and more guys coming out. They had weapons too.
Nobody came
Its alot more crazy when your actually dreaming it. |

| That is a very scary dream. Thanks for sharing. Did you know you were in a dream or did you think you were in real life? That's one of the weirdest feelings in the world when you believe you are in a real situation and it turns out to be a dream. |

i think my energy is better spent on living life than learning how to dream better
my last dream, i was going to have sex with a girl and i almost did the unthinkable...without a condom
i then opened a condom wrapper and what i found inside confused me so much that i woke up
that sucked
in favour of lucid dreaming, if i had known it wasn't real...i wouldn't have bothered with the condom! |

So, lucid dreaming is basically when you know you're dreaming, that's it? Can you also control what you dream?
If so, everytime I dream, I ask myself if I'm dreaming or not, usually I know when it's a dream or not, but I can't control what happens, I try, but unsuccesfully :( |

so... are dreams a form of wish-fullfillment?
..... or are they a form of conflict resolution?
..... or are they just random neural impulses that get sorted together by your brain????  |

they can be the first two and they are the last one. there is no all or none answer. the first two deal with the perception of the random neuronal activity.
sleep is teh fun. |
