This is all you need to know ;) | I've heard of that place before. I've heard on here that Stereo is one of the best discotheques (sp?) (/ clubs) around in montreal and it was _substance_ & _content_. :-) Also a thriving GLBT community frequented there at one time to get its reputation as a 'gay club'? |

public transit is good, but when I get out of a club / or go to a club at 4am, waiting outside for the bus in the cold isn't the best.
Cabs are cheap tho.
why don't you visit the city for a weekend to a have an idea about the neighbourhoods? Where do you live? | I should visit there first in April or May before leaving here for good. It would give me an idea of what to expect. :-)
I'm from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania and public transportation _not_ running after midnight and before 05:00 is something to expect around here, with the exception of a few busses. I've heard that 24-7 public transportation is around in Montreal, particularly with the trains, but I can't take that as fact. Anyone who lives there know for sure? |

like everything else, you get used to it.
Feeling cold is more psychological than anything else.

Nice photo! From where was that taken in Montreal? |

the picture was taken from Notre Dame island.
Subways and trains don't run from 1:30am to 5:30am.
Night buses are there, it might be better than Philadelphia but it aint much either.
If you live downtown, you shouldn't worry about transportation. |

| Best of luck. I'm planning to move to Canada once I'm finished with my schooling. |

The Quebec info site doesn't say much for US residents, which don't need a temporary resident visa to go to Canada.
|
I believe you have to renew your visitor's permit after 6 months if your paperwork for residency isn't completed.
You might have to have a sponsor (either personal or employer) to guarantee that you won't collect Unemployment Insurance for 3 years (used to be 10 years back in the day). Government paperwork is a bitch. |

| Living near a subway (metro) station is always quite usefull and for the night, taxi's are cheap. And if you live not too far you can walk anyways, for me it's around 45 minutes - 1h from the clubs, so not that bad. |
