How easy is it to upgrade hardware?
Im in need of a 2nd HD, and I think a new fan as my computer seems to be hotter than usual(its warming my feet up where as it didnt use to)
I know itll void the warranty, so should I take it to Future shop(means I need to purchase from future shop+pay their labour? Or should I risk it and buy OEM parts and do it myself? |

^^^ there ya go. although those harddrive pics are old, they still tell ya what you need to know.
*EDIT*
opening your computer shouldnt void a warranty, that would be stupid(but who knows, Futureshop is stupid)
if you open an individual part in your computer, that might void the warranty for that part.
To install an new part, its really easy.
ill try and find a site for you, which has the process outlined with pics, cause its soo much easier with view pics.
how experienced a computer person are you? have you ever opened and tinkered before? |

| I installed a CD burner on my moms computer and the hardest part was getting the case off. |

For ventilation...try to balance the fans so that you have about the same amount of air going OUT of the case as you do coming IN the case.
Narrowing down the source for the most heat might help also (if it's CPU - upgrade heatsink+fan, video card - upgrade heatsinks/fans or have a fan blowing from the side etc.)...or go full out with a water cooling solution :D
Oh, also where you place the case will have an affect...is it in open space or within a confined space in a desk? |

Then installing a hard drive will be easy...same steps...since it's your 2nd HD, you may need to switch the jumper settings to slave, that's about it. |
