something happened to my computer 3 days back. I havent made any software changes, spybot picks up nothing, Norton AV Corporate finds nothing.
Despite all that my computer has slowed down to a complete crawl. I tried running the disk cleanup, but it freezes everytime. Im going to run disk defrag tonight, and ive still got 15% of my HD free.
Ive noticed that my computer seems to be running quite hot(my feet sit by the back of the fan, and there is more hot air on my feet.
so, does anybody have any hints as to what might be wrong with my computer?
its XP SP1, and because ive edited my boot.ini file to customize boot screens last year, I cant upgrade to SP2...but I dont think this can be the issue because this problem started 2 days ago and not ages ago. |

| Perhaps a fan inside of the case broke down? |

What processor is it? and what hard drive is it?
my gut reaction to this makes me think your harddrive could be on its way out... though dont take my word 100% for it, id suggest you back up all your important stuff just to be sure |

| My sister's just bought a new computer and, it came with so many useless software running in the background that my Pentium 600Mhz boots up faster than her 2.something :p (I run win98 and she runs XP as well) |

the most viable answer ... the fan isn't usually the problem with slow computers .. maybe it cou;d, because of excess heat or something ... but most probably your hd is crapping out...
backup and save, please! now now now! or you will probably be in the bad situation of messed up hdd in the future ..
