wow...two small turbos for quick spool and a monster for top end...nice. Maintenance costs might be a bitch later on with three turbos though, lol.
I would love to see a dyno plot for that application...I bet a load of that torque is available down low which will still make for some fun city driving. Nice. |

Wow, that's pretty innovative. Benz has been in the diesel game in Europe for quite some time, so it's only fitting that such a system would come from them

We do have the car, but I don't know if its the tri-turbo version. Perviously, the Kompressor was the turbo offered on this benz in Canada, and this year they changed the engine options. Not sure if we'll be seeing this one here. |

| Actually, not quite. Rudolf Diesel (1858 - 1913) is the inventory of the Diesel engine. His patent is the basis for the common-rail diesels and all diesels since. Mercedes Benz is the first company to use a diesel engine in a production car. Made in 1936, it was the Type 260D. So, there ya have it, one more little piece of trivia. |

Doubt it :) Benz makes the best diesels on the planet. With common-rail injector technology, they can only become better. There's a reason you see those old early 80's Benz 300-series diesels (300D, 300SD) on the road all the time... Odds are they have over 300,000km and have never had any major problems :) Thats why you can still end up spending 7 or 8 grand on an '83 300D. Ridiculous, but they just don't die.
Also, Orko, no, the EU MPG tests aren't the same. Imperial gallons are different from US gallons, and this has been converted to the US MPG measurement. For EU MPG, it gets 37.7mpg average. |

damn everybody for not being on the metric system!
but i was actually reffering to the actual test, how they come to the figure. cause i know its some weird formula and test, they dont just take the car out and dirve around. its a very standarized test...but i was wondering if it was the same or not, because US cities are very different from EU cities |

Ah, well then I'm not sure. Autocar magazine reports mixed highway/city driving of 37.7 EU mpg, thats where I got that figure from. |
